I bought a Sig P6 recently. It only came with one mag. I looked at shops around here and factory mags were about $45 each. I have seen ProMag magazines, which are half that.
The general buzz on the forums seems to be negative about them. But I noticed they are advertised with a lifetime guarantee. Has anyone ever bought a ProMag mag, had trouble and contacted ProMag about it? None of the negative comments I've read on the web mention if the company made it right for them. If they stand behind their product I'd take a chance with them. If not, even at half price, it wouldn't be much of a bargain.
Just wondering.

Check Top Gun Supply for Sig mags. I bought two more for my 238 and they are identical to the stock.

I bought a Pro Mag for my Sig P6 last year and it has worked just fine. There is some talk that Pro Mag has upgraded their magazines for the 225/P6. I use it for a range magazine. Have two of the original mags. Bill

I have 4 of the ProMags and they all work just fine. And yes, I own a P6.

The mags for the P6, when they can be found, are so pricey it isn't worth paying as much or more for the mags as was spent to get the SIG pistol.

I only have two factory SIG mags.

I had a bad experience with Pro Mag magazines for a Beretta .45 Cougar a few years ago. They stood by their product and replaced the mags, but that didn't cure the issue. Factory mags were better, but the gun still hiccuped occasionally. I eventually sold it. The only 45s I own now are Kimber.

I have had bad luck with all ProMags except the spare one for my Enfield No4Mk1*, and I used it only twice to check for function.

I've tried various pro-mag manufactured magazines. Every one of them was astoundingly terrible. Actually, the only two I have that ever fed properly are Ruger P90 8rd mags .. but that's only if you load only 7 rounds. Go to 8 and the things are unusable.

As far as having them replaced at the company.. well, they'd just be replacing them with a pro-mag so what's the point.

Look I'm never a gun snob about this kind of thing ( I cant afford to be one ) but the simple fact of the matter is that pro-mag mags are total garbage and people only buy them because of the price. I'm sure a lot of people who don't get to actually practice much would buy them intending to use them for self-defense and that makes the mags dangerous. When a company makes a product that they know full well is of low quality, generally I'd say buyer beware. When it comes to gun parts specifically though, the company knows it could feasibly cost lives. If people would stop buying them, maybe they'd clean up their act. At least label them as "target practice only" mags or something.

Yeah Mec-Gar or factory for me. Often times that means Mec-Gar or Mec-Gar with a slightly different marking.

By all means avoid wasting your money on anything with ProMag stamped on it anywhere. Go the extra dollar or two and invest in decent MecGar mags, which work all the time and are worth the money you pay for them.

My P6 came with 2 factory mags. While waiting for someone to get originals in stock, I bought 2 ProMags for it. The hole for the mag catch is about one sixteenth of an inch too high on the mag body, letting the mag drop down and leaving a crack between the butt of the grip and the top of the mag bottom. This is just enough to cause a feeding problem every so often(read once or twice per mag). A two handed grip pressing the mag all the way in and never a problem.

Two of these will work perfectly every time:

Also, every Mec-Gar I have ever bought worked perfectly...only thing is, I have never seen one for a P6. Can someone post a link where you can buy them for a P6 please? Thanks!

I'll 2nd or 3rd the Mecgar's. I have four of the 18 round mags for the P226. They are identical to the Sig stamped ones, other than the stamping, since Mecgar makes them for Sig as someone mentioned.

I use or used Pro mags in Ruger P series, S&W model 59, and P99, Beretta Cougar 9mm. I even converted some to work in the old HS 2000 (Springfield XD) And the steel was a bitch to drill through. they never caused a bit of trouble. Some of the springs need to be stronger-but for me they have always worked. They have all been used for range work and I would only use the factory mag for social situations. Put me down for good things to say about Pro Mag. I like them just fine.

Every Promag magazine I've ever used has been junk. I used one in a Saiga (converted), failed to feed, and I broke the rear tang just doing a standard reload. I've used them in an Armscor 1911, failed to feed properly.

If they make one properly working and durable magazine, they should discontinue all other magazines and just make that one. At least until they get it together.

that hilarious!

well i had a promag for 1911's. would barely squeeze into either on my 1911's. never fired it. cheaperthandirt sent it to me when i ordered a good mag, told me to keep it and gave me a refund. if it fit properly i'd prob use it for the range, but would certainly never trust it for defense

I've looked on MecGar's site and didn't see a mag for the P6/225 listed. If they ever made them, they must have discontinued them.
I have a gun show coming up in the area at the end of the month. This sounds like a great excuse to go to it.

BTW, I loved the picture too;)

The factory P225 magazines are made by J.P. Sauer & Sohn. Mec-Gar makes most of Sig Sauer's other magazines with a couple of exceptions. But Mec-Gar does not sell all of the aftermarket. They currently only sell the P228/229 9mm and P226 9mm magazines aftermarket.

the ProMag for my .32acp Beretta didn't function right so I called the CS and they sent me a shpg label, replaced it free w/a mag that does fine.
all the 10 rd Mini30 mags I've bought do fine. I have a couple 30rd S&W 5906 mags for my Marlin Camp 9mm that do fine also. they stand behind their products.

I have a ProMag Glock 19 magazine I picked up about 12 years ago when factory standard caps were around $100 each (clinton ban). I can't attest to how well it functions because the follower it still stuck halfway down in the mag body from the first time I attempted to load it. Not exactly the best $19 I ever spent, but a lesson learned. I don't know if they had a lifetime warranty at the time. I didn't think they had any warranty so I never contacted the company.

I would pass on the ProMags. Sigs in general are sensitive to magazines. There are no guarantees that it will work if it's not a factory magazine. As stated above, Mec-Gar is the company who manufactures magazines for Sig Sauer, as well as Walther, Beretta, and several other companies. If you want a cheaper magazine, order one from Mec-Gar. They're identical to the Sig Sauer-stamped magazines, the only difference is that they aren't stamped with Sig-Sauer. My dad wanted some 20 rounders for his 226, but couldn't believe the price he saw at the gun stores-around 60 per magazine. I did some looking online and found them for about 32 each, shipped. Made a good Christmas gift! The same website had the Sig stamped ones for nearly double that. They're identical construction-wise and work reliably.

EDIT:the site I found those magazines on was Cal's Sporting Armory. I've read that some people don't like them, but my dealing with them went fine.
