I don't even know anymore
I got my first Promag magazine for my Sig P6 from Aimsurplus today. I took it to the range and put 100rds through it. I gotta say, I might be buying factory mags from now on, even for over double the price.
I noticed that loading it was a little tough. Sure its a new mag, and the springs might be a little stiff, but I got the impression that the magazine was too short for the ammo. It seemed like the ammo had to tilt to get into the magazine.
I also noticed some fail to feed issues. There were a few where the slide locked back with one round left in the mag, and others that the slide went forward when the mag was empty, like the follower wasn't engaging the slide catch, but the last round was? I'm going to put another couple hundred rounds through it to see if it "breaks in." (do mags have a break in period?)
This is the first aftermarket magazine I've bought, as well as the first Promag product I've bought, an it has left me wondering about future purchases from Promag.

Any input?

I purchased a 32-Round magazine for a Beretta 92 from them. It worked occasionally, and it was rare to go through a full mag without a FTF.

The follower seemed to tilt and get stuck, and rounds were fed with unequal tension--some had to be crammed in there while others fell out if you shook the magazine.

I had some years ago for my 228 and 229 and only thing I recall is that I changed out all the followers, springs, and base plates to SIG factory OEM parts. They all worked 100% w/ those mods. What's funny is that I could load up 9mm's in the 229 .40 mags and they still worked fine! My only gripe after doing the mods was that the metal was "soft" and it would get all bent-up quick around the mag catch area. Need less to say, I got rid of those mags First! I list them the same as USA mags! Stick to OEM mags!

Promag are junk. The only good after market mags are Mec-Gar. Sorry they are not available for the P225.

I got rid of my Sig P220 ProMags after I discovered that they would jam up and lock the gun up completely with reloads. The lead bullet nose would stick in the slots for the mag catch. Plus they just didn't feel right- the followers would cant and you had to rap the mag on a table to jolt them back straight to feed again. I usually had a couple jams each range session, and noticed some mags were worse offenders- after examination I determined that the shape of the curve at the front of the mag body was not consistent from mag to mag. Some had a deeper curve, some a shallower curve, the shallower, the more they jammed. I went back to Sig mags and happy times.

The only thing worse than ProMags is those Scherer mags for Glocks.

I keep hearing MecGar will be running P225/P6 mags again this year as a special. Keep looking for them.

I'll never buy another Pro-Mag of any kind after personal horror stories and those of many other folks I trust.

With all the Pro-Mag bashing going on, especially for the P6, its nice to see an actual range report confirming this.

We all know their crap, but confirmation is comforting.

Back During "The Ban"...

...someone I considered reliable gave me a favorable report on ProMag magazines. I made the mistake of investing in a few for a Glock and had virtually the same experience described above.

Also tried a couple of "ProMag" in a SIG P229.
BLECH!
Fortunately the shop I bought 'em from took them back and I bought several OEM mags from them to make up for it.

I'll use OEM and Mec-Gar but never Pro-Mag.

Thanks for posting this. I had seen the Promag P6 mags, but I have had previous experience with Promag and was leary of them. I am glad I didn't try to buy one.

Sig p6

Does anyone know if the sig p6 has a mag safety? Can I fire it with out the mag in it, with one in the pipe?

Thanks,

I thought Sig-Sauer USA brought a large batch into the country recently. Have these magazines all sold out too?

Never mind. I e-mailed SIG. All sold out.

I was further informed that should SIG-Sauer, Inc. import more, they would all be sold to Brownell's.
