I haven't heard anything good about ProMag magazines, but I'm having a tough time finding anything else for my S&W 457. ProMag makes a 10-rounder that looks attractive, but it doesn't help that I'm not hearing great things about them. Has anyone had any good or bad experiences?

Thanks!

I've only tried to use them in my Witness .45 acp and 9x19 pistols. The notch for the magazine catch was cut too high and they wouldn't feed in either caliber. Both pistols are flawless with factory or MecGar magazines, so I have to blame the ProMags as the problem. They're now in my "junk magazine" box.

Hope this helps.

Fred

Owned one for 1911, tried one in a Beretta 92. They failed miserably in those guns, and I've seen them fail just as miserably in a myriad of other models. I don't recommend them, in fact I bad mouth them horribly to anyone who will listen. Even if someone did the dastardly deed of taking my own sweet mother out to a nice seafood dinner and never called her again, I still wouldn't wish a Pro-Mag on them.

I bought 2 10rd Promags for my Sig 220 and neither has worked. They a POS if you ask me. :cuss:

proMag=progarbage, with two exceptions. the CZ Compact 40 mags made during the ban held 14 rounds of 9mm, and were said to be reliable, and the ProMag N04Mk1* replacement mag I bought works well.

bought one for my Bersa 380...its now in the junk basket....would not even slide half way up the handle...wasted 25 bucks.

Why do places like Midway, Natchez and other outlets sell these things? You'd think if ProMags were junk — and I have no reason to believe they aren't junk — that these places would drop them.

Hit or miss. I've had one or two that work, several that don't. I don't buy aftermarket magazines any more with the exception of MecGar mags WHEN MecGar is OEM for the gun in question.

They sell them because people buy them. People buy them because the price is right and they "think if ProMags were junk...that these places would drop them". ;)

Because of the price of HK mags, I had purchased a couple ProMags for my USP 45. They have been reliable and durable but I don't trust them for work or HD duty -- these mags are banished to range use only. The factory mags are all I use for HD & work

1911 Promags are trash.
Glock Promags are decent, but my Glock 23 has jammed a few times while using them. Haven't had a problem with 9x19 Glock Promags.

CZ97 promags are pretty much trash. Bought one at a gun show (thankfully I didn't get ripped to bad) It turned my semi-auto gun into a "slide action pistol". Fire a shot, push the mag up, rack a new round, fire a shot....you get the drift. I don't even use it at the range.

How to turn a German-made Sig P220 into an unreliable jam-o-matic:

Feed it with ProMags.

Got rid of them all, gone and quickly forgotten, paid the money for Mec-Gars and never looked back.

The only mag I can speak worse of is the Scherer 33-round Glock 9mm mags. I would rather throw the mag at the bad guys than trust it to feed reliably. You get what you pay for!

Honestly, I forgot why I hate Promags. But, I remember I tried several that fit different guns and none of the them worked.

All I can say is that the proverbial red flag goes up when I hear the name and I move along and seek something else.

Only heard bad things about most after market brands, pro-mag being the biggest.

So I pay the $5-10 more, and get a mag that works, perfectly, every time.

Mec-gar mags in the CZ, Glock Mags in the glock, Bersa mags in the bersa.

And a ruger cylinder in the single six.

ditto #10, I had a couple for a Beretta that didn't do well, I sent them back (ProMag sent a post-paid envelope) and exchanged, the replacements do fine.
I have another for a 5906 Smith that does fine, no problem with fit or function.

I have had only 1 model of Pro-Mag work and that is the one's that they are making for the GSG 5 pistols and rifles. They have been as good as the factory mags there. Any others that I have tried have been junk.

My promags from the 90's that I use in my Kahr E9 work just fine

The ProMags for my Kahr CW9 are amoung the very few ProMAgs I've seen that work. I've also had good results with the 10 round Mini-30 ProMags, dismal with the 30 rounders. Although when I tried to clean them the followers swelled up and they wouldn't feed. Judicious filing on the followers got them working again, but I'll have to be careful to keep solvents off the followers next time I have to clean them -- most mags I just put in a bucket of diesel fuel and swirl, drain, and let dry.

By and large you are wasting your time and money with Promag, Triple-K and especially National Magazines. My advice only buy them if your are desperate and then only from a place that will give you your money back when they don't work.

My guess is people buy them as a spare and never shoot them.

Only Pro-Mag i have every used were 30rd AR polymer mags.
They worked pretty decent. Kind of a PITA to load because the followers suck. But tey feed fine.
I wouldnt trust any other mag from them.

I have had good luck with all my Pro mags. S&W hicaps, CZ compact high caps,Beretta Cougar hicaps. Probably some more that I can't remember. Not great but good. I would not hesitate to buy one. Use them just don't stake your life on them.

I have found ProMags to work well for my Beretta 92fs, however...

The were total junk for my HKs (would self eject when fired); and

Jammed in my SIG P229 so badly that I had to take the slide off and pound the mag out with a dowel.

Would never trust another one again.

The only feeding malfunction my SIG P228 ever had was with a ProMag. I fired a shot, the case ejected, the slide came forward and I pulled the trigger again for the next shot, only to get a click. I racked the slide and no round ejected from the chamber - it simply never fed.

Did you specifically want a 10-round magazine? There should be no problem finding a 7-round factory magazine for that gun. It is the same as the 4516 and other guns of that size. An eight-round 4506/645 mag will also work but will stick out of the grip.
