With all the memorials going on today on the Virginia Tech campus and the preparation for those during the past week, there has also been a big stink about the "lie-in" protests planned by the Brady Campaign and Protesteasyguns.com, and carried out by a select few (read: disrespectful) members of the student body.

This has really rubbed me wrong. So yesterday, I bought the domain name Protesteasyvictims.com. I don't know what I have planned for it yet. I'm not well versed in building and maintaining a website, but I plan to learn everything it takes. The name was obviously meant to be a stab at Protesteasyguns.com, while the basis of the website will probably cover gun free zones and their habit of making people easy target practice. I suppose I need to start researching heavily. Whether or not it becomes a true real world activist website will remain to be seen.

I don't expect to have anything up and running soon, but my company has announced a layoff today and it is possible I may have more time on my hands than I know what to do with. I'm also closing on a house (yay for bad timing) next week and will be in the middle of a move, so I hope to plan everything on paper before taking the necessary steps to get it online.

I'm very open to suggestions and would like to hear what everyone thinks this website should embody.

how about a blog documenting all of the cases of gun free zones that lead to killings?

you could do a current events thing when these screwballs do happen and you could do a daily history lesson on past events

I hope Oleg would be willing to supply some images for that site! Even if nothing else went on it, that would be a good use of the domain name ;)

EDIT: a press-clipping service of sorts on there gathering news media (not anecdotal) accounts of defensive gun use would be a useful feature, to point to whenever people say "Having a gun means you'll be shot with it!" and such.

I like the idea of a blog. You could highlight both sides of the coin- on one side, stories about violence in gun-free zones; on the other side stories about CCW holders successfully thwarting crime.

An advantage of a blog is that they're really easy to put together with free software like Wordpress, even for a relative neophyte. Check out http://wordpress.org

I'll keep an eye on this thread- as a web developer by profession, I'll offer whatever advice or tidbits I can to help out.

Try a WordPress blog. www.wordpress.org That's what I'm using on my website www.svlibertarian.info

Now I will admit I didn't build the page. A friend of mine with a web development business did... But wordpress is supposed to be easy to setup.

If you want to drop $400 he can make you a page like mine.

I have really been thinking we need to use the anti's medicine against them. The next time they do one of their LIE-ins. We need to show up with 32 people as well. Instead of protesting their LIE-in, we hold one right next to them. Except for ours, we have signs like "Here lie disarmed victims" or "Casualties of Gun Free Zones." We could even have a big PEV (Protest Easy Victims) banner instead of the PEG banner.

It does disgust me that they held one at VT yesterday. The pro gun organizations sent out press releases long ago stating they will not protest on April 16 out of respect. Fortunately PEG is still getting hammered for it in the campus newspaper.

TheReeves,
If you need content I'd be happy to be a "guest submitter".
You can easily search my post history here to see my general tone and attitude.

I like most of the suggestions folks are making here, but I'd avoid making it into a further parody of protesteasyguns.org because, as they say, imitation is the most sincere form of flattery and we DO NOT need to flatter those folks so I'd say "be origional" as much as possible.

VT357, any way to link to that?

TheReeves, good for you.

Protesteasyguns and their sympathizers dishonor us all by further abusing the victims created by Gun Free Zones.

They were murdered as the inevitable consequence of a deranged notion that the way to make people safe is by making them defenseless. Then their deaths are trivialized by the very same kinds of people who created the situation that killed them. Not have enough victims yet, they want more. And still more.

They attempt use the evident and obvious failures of their terrible experiment as leverage to broaden its scope. Their logic is demented: since one Gun Free Zone has resulted in more than thirty young deaths, more Gun Free Zones will keep people alive.

Those people are insane and dangerous.

You might want to see if you can get permission to reprint some of the NRA's Armed Citzen articles. Not sure if you would do this through the NRA or would have to go to the original publications to get permission, but NRA might be able to give you some advice there.

you wouldnt need permission if you only took snippets and you linked to the original source... fair use standards would apply

Thanks for all the great ideas, I think I like all of them! This weekend I'm going to start researching incidents in gun free zones and I'll check out all the articles from the NRA, and the gun blogs. So much to do, but like I said in the original post, looks like I'm going to have the time to do it.

ZeSpectre - I would like to include a section for submitted articles and comments. You are more than welcome to add to it! As far as protesteasyguns.com goes, the name is the extent of the parody. I only want it to be a noticeable play on the other websites choice of title.

Trick Google to have a PEV link every time a PEG type query is made. Sheep would flock to the wrong site and "accidentally" become informed. :D
