Protesters Target Weekly Meeting of Conservative Activists

(CNSNews.com) - Liberal activists plan to protest "Republican corruption" on Wednesday outside the offices of Americans for Tax Reform, where conservative leaders and activists gather weekly -- "to discuss their next moves," protest organizers said.

The "Stop Corruption First" protest is intended to draw media attention to the "close connection" between congressional Republicans and the "business lobbyists who are funding their operations," a press release said.

"The plan is to show up, peacefully conduct a protest with signs, and disperse after a half hour or so," said MoveOn.org Political Action, which is co-sponsoring the protest with the Campaign for America's Future and Public Campaign Action Fund.

"We're inviting the media and expect the protest to be widely reported on by the press." MoveOn.org Political Action said it would provide the protest signs.

Grover Norquist, the head of Americans for Tax Reform, "is at the center of the Republican power machine in Washington and has been implicated in the corruption scandals" of lobbyist Jack Abramoff, MoveOn.org said.

Norquist was instrumental in forming the K Street Project, a successful effort to expand the number of Republican lobbyists operating in Washington - and attempting to influence legislation, which is legal if bribery isn't involved.

Norquist, a longtime friend of Abramoff's, has not been charged with any wrongdoing, and he has denied allegations of influence peddling. He has become a prime target for Democrats eager to undermine conservative influence in Washington.

Keep right on expecting, okay?

It's not like we've never seen such a thing (Chicago, '68; Civil War Draft Riots in NYC, etc.) but if you are expecting ongoing political-party-based street warfare in addition the the usual hold-ups, armed robberies, break-ins and drive-bys, you're dreaming. Too much unrest makes it difficult for the limos to get through; therefore it doesn't happen.

I sure wish more people would read "Unintended Consequences" instead of "The Turner Diaries."

I'll bet Grover will be quite pleasantly surprised to find out he's got so much pull with the elected misrepresentatives.

Honestly, the worst that this protest will do is actually get Americans for Tax Reform free publicity.

I was just noticing how this "news" report had quotes only form members of the protest and moveon.org. [sarcasm]What indepth and inciteful reporting, this reporter must surely be a proud graduate of the Harpo School of Journalism in Bumblefyke, WI[/sarcasm]

***Please note that I have nothing against the great state of WI or their education system, it simply was the first state to pop into my head.***

A whole half hour? The entire 30 minutes? Wow.

Why am I remided of those beer commercials where the guy performs dangerous feats of daring like staying at work five minutes after 5 on a Friday?

Heh. I attended one of these roundtables in the summer; chances are, nobody in the room will even hear the morons outside.

I'm not yawning. I expect partisan political gang warfare within two years.

During the election fiasco of 2000, there were some wild-eyed people running around predicting civil war. My wife thought about it and said, "Well, we have all the guns.":p
