Hello all. I am a new member to this board but I have handled firearms since I was a single-digit kid. This will be the 5th Glock I've owned. Unfortunately, I no longer have them anymore. I have owned the Glock 19 before and I'm kicking myself for selling it. I sold my last G19 to buy a Smith & Wesson M&P9. I knew Glocks didn't have the greatest ergonomics, but I never realized how much the Glock felt like a 2X4 until I held the M&P9 in the store. I fell in love with the ergonomics of the M&P and I had to have it. Well, I'm not made of money, so I sold the G19 to pay for the M&P. I liked a lot of things about the M&P...it felt great in my hand, I liked the external safety, great sights, 17 round magazine, etc. Ironically, I didn't shoot it as accurately as I did with the Glock. Well, I've been missing the Glock and decided to readopt one. I sold the M&P today and went right to the store to get my hands on another G19. I picked up the Glock in the store, and though I could tell a significant lack of comfort versus the M&P, the Glock just felt sturdy in my hand. Sometimes I think the M&P was a little TOO comfortable. In addition, this will be my carry gun, and the M&P wasn't a gun I would want to scar up and get dirty. I don't want a gun that I'm afraid to get dirty or scratched, so I knew I had to come back to the Glock. The Glock is just a rugged piece that I dont mind getting a little dirty or scratched up. Anyway, I'm looking forward to spending some time on the board with yall :)

Here she is :)

I'm actually also thinking about getting a Glock 17 or 19. Good reviews and hundreds of accesories. I owned a few 9mm in diferent brands and the only one I have enjoyed is my EAA Witness 9mm and my next gun will be a Glock 9mm for sure.

Well, along with the 5 Glocks I have owned, I have owned Smith & Wesson and Sig in different calibers. The Sig was very nice, though I still have to say the Glock is still my favorite...the G19 in particular ;) I can't wait to pick it up tomorrow

It's not a 19, but I can sympathize with your problem in not wanting to ding it.

I own a New agent and can't stand to put a scuff in it ... it's more comfortable in the hand and easier to conceal ... but I can't stop carrying my Glock 26 now, simply because I have no qualms about beating it up. Whereas I oil my New Agent and baby it like mad. >.<

Thats the wasy I was treating my M&P. I knew I was doomed...it's a gun for God's sake!! That's one item I don't want to worry about getting a scratch on :)

Raise,

Welcome to THR.

I also felt the comfort of other pistols (XD, XDm, M&P, etc.) Compared to the Glock grip/angle. I have tried a few others, but kept coming back to the Glock due to its simplicity, ruggedness, and reliability. Training with the Glock took care of the problems I had with the grip and grip angle. I have been running glocks for about 10 years now and I have never had a problem with any of them.

Enjoy your Glock.

welcome to thr. and congrats on the glock, you have a good one and it will serve you well. Yeah i always hate it after i sell a gun too, i think everyone does.

What exactly was it about the training that took care of the problems you had with the grip and grip angle?

Raise,

I use to carry 1911s, but I carried Glocks on duty. That constant back and forth caused my qualification scores to suffer because I was use to the 1911 grip angle (aka "proper"), trigger, and feel.... and not the Glock's. I then switched over to my G21SF that has a grip reduction. My qualification scored got a little better, but was not 100%. I decided to switch to my G17 for carry because it has the same external dimensions as my duty G31. I can't afford the 357sig ammo, and I don't reload it, so the 9mm was as economical as I could get.
Since the switch to the G17 , I have scored 100% on my POST qualification and scored high on a tactical pistol qualification.

I run about 200-300 rounds a week through my G17. Since I have been nearly exclusive with the G17, I no longer notice the grip angle or the grip difference. Ditto with the G31.

Congrats man!! I just cleaned and lubricated it last night and I'll be taking it to the range when I get back in town Saturday. Im not sure why, but even though the grip on the M&P was much more comfortable, the Glock feels more sturdy in my hand. I dont know if its weight distribution or what, but I feel like I can draw to my target quicker, and keep it there with less movement than with ther M&P

Welcome man! That thing is screaming for a pair of Trijicon night sights.

Congrats on getting one of the best glocks!

IMO the M&Ps and glocks are pretty close in price. I'd carry the one that you can shoot better with and manipulate controls better, etc.

How the grips feel isn't necessarily a good indication of sturdiness. I personally hate the finger grooves on my 19. But not enough to keep me from buying an additional g17 and g26... lol

The way you position your grip of the pistol when pressing out towards the target.

Some pistols point high (glocks for me) or low(1911s for me).

If you take note of this and do enough press outs with a particular gun design, you would get more consistent sight pictures, with the front sight being level with the rear, instead of being high or low.

This is why IMO, grip angle isn't really important, and certainly not a reason to dismiss good designs. Just train into it!

Once I bought a Glock (gen4 17, which I recently sold and bought a 19 rtf2) and started shooting with it on a regular basis, I have to agree. I always shot well with my friends' glocks, but I avoided buying them simply because of the grip angle.

After months of Glock ownership, the grip angle has been the least of my concerns. I do have a tendency to hit the slide lock on my 1911's accidentally if I transition straight from the Glock to the 1911 while practicing. I also had a dangerous issue that I've sense resolved with trigger pull. If I put the glock up, grabbed a 1911 and started firing...I would have a tendency to double tap unintentionally. I think the problem was that I was still adjusting myself to the glock trigger reset. I've since rectified that issue, but only after lots of practice with both my glock and a 1911.

To the OP, congrats. I also ccw my glock regularly (now that I am comfortable with it) on some days because I don't want to ding up other weapons I am more fond of. I don't own a single safe queen, but my kimber pro cdp II has 3500+ rounds down the pipe yet I still cringe about getting a ding on it. I do miss the feeling of wood and steel against my side on days that I'm carrying the glock....it almost leaves me with that "forgotten wallet" feeling. :uhoh:

I have: (2) Glock 17s, Glock 21, Glock 30, Colt USGI 1911, Smith 442, Smith 686 2 1/2", Smith 686+ 6", Ruger Super Redhawk .454, Dan Wesson 14, Ruger SP101, Ruger GP100, Ruger Super Single Six, North American Arms .22 WMR, Desert Eagle .50AE. Had: CZ SP 101, Glock 20, Colt Series 80, Springfield Mil-Spec, CZ-52, Charter Arms .38, Ruger Mark III and another GP 100.
This Glock 19 is the best handgun I've ever owned. Accuracy, reliability, and everything else is second rate to this gun. I couldn't pick anyother one and only handgun.

Congrats...the 19 was my first purchase as well! Now get some night sights on it:)

I am glad to hear that you like your new pistol. I have many pistols, but not even one single plastic gun. I am thinking, in good time, I will get a Glock and try it out. They can be had cheap enough; there is no reason not to have at least one in my collection.

Well, today was the first day at the range for the new G19. Not too bad after I got used to the trigger :) As you can see in the first pic, I was shooting low at first, then consistently high, then I stayed inside the circle for the rest of the day. The second pic is sideways and you can see I am shooting a tad bit right, but still well within my point of intent.
