More news about Public Land Hunting for Hogs
I received the booklet from fish and game, it has 29 area's that mention pig hunting. You can view the whole pdf file on the Calif. Fish and Game website under the wild pig section, its about 42 pages long so be patient for it to download. It seems like there are more pigs are located south of Monterey if you really want to hunt on public land, but there are some in the north as well, just not as many. At the end of the file you will find the listing of the sites and what type of hunting you might find there. The file is a few years old, but it gives what is a general description of the last few years of the pig populations in those area's.
I have word that the pigs are moving down to the feilds near Paso Robles from a few hunters here that have friends that own ranches there. Looks like the rain is helping the Barley crops and the pigs are moving down out of the hills to feed. One hunter said that his friend called him Monday night and said that he seen up to 70 hogs that day in the feilds. Personally, I take this with a grain of salt, but I have seen pigs in groups of up to 30 so, who but the rancher that seen them really knows. Wish I could have gotten an invite to go with him...The hunter did buy 2 tags and was leaving today to go get some pigs... Since I work at the local Walmart in the sporting goods dept., I will keep asking for news of good places to hunt pigs and pass the word.
