Looking for suggestions for Peep sights or Scout mounts for a Puma 92... Any that ya'll would suggest or should I just stick with the factory irons?...

or would you recommend something altogether different?

I have one on mine and it is SOOOO much better than the irons. Did have to file down the front sight a bit. Just do it a 16th of an inch or so at a time until the elevation is right.

You CAN adjust elevation on the sight it self, but I had it at the full end of travel and was still a bit low. With about 1/8th off the front sight I'm now at mid point of travel on the rear adjustment and nuts on at 50 yards. Next I'll be trying at 100.

I like the marble tang sights myself (have one for my win 9422), in addition to giving the largest distance between front and rear sight and placing the aperture near the eye, they are also windage and elevation adjustable and I can easily swap out the apertures too.

I combine mine with a skinner front sight.

thank you... I will definitely look into the stainless dovetail peep... It seems perfect for what i am looking for... it is unfortunate that i cannot get something mounted further back or a tang sight (would require drilling and tapping the tang... Not interested in that.)

You can also get a williams sight put on - you will need to drill and tap the side. My rear apeture is adjustable - from a full ghost ring to as small as you can imagine - just takes a quick/quiet twist.

I just bought a Marble Tang for a Rossi '92 Puma from Brownells. No need to drill and tap, Screw set fit into existing holes perfectly.

* 1ea Marble Rossi 1892 Peep Tang Sight - Stock no. 579-009-807 (made specifically for your Rossi '92)
* 1ea Marble Peep Tang Sight Screw set (Rossi) - Stock no. 579-000-101 (again, specifically for your Rossi '92)

I liked the look of the peep on the bolt, but went with the Marble to avoid the gun smithing. Also wanted adjustment for windage.

Pretty good discussion of this issue here: http://shootersforum.com/forumdisplay.htm?f=62

The bolt peep, pictured above, that replaces the M92 bolt-top safety is "no gunsmithing" - unless one counts drifting out the safety retainer pin, dropping in the peep, and re-installing the retainer pin as gunsmithing.

They're available from: www.stevesgunz.com

.

anyone? anyone? I checked skinners and stevesguns and neither have them listed as an option.

how did you install the skinner? from looking at his site it would require the safety hole to be drilled and tapped... I cannot find one that is just a drop in replacement to the safety.

Sorry, I should have been more specific...I installed a skinner barrel mounted peep sight. Just drift out the factory sight from its dovetail with a brass punch, and the slide the skinner peep into the dovetail and tighten it with the supplied set screw.

As far as drop in sights that replace the safety, rumor has it that http://www.stevesgunz.com/ will be coming out with one in the future.

thank you... I appreciate that... I had thought about the barrel mounted peep but that seems like it puts the sight too far from the eye... I guess I will be patient and wait for the bolt peeps to come more available.

Any put something other than a rear peep sight on a 92?

I've had one for a few months now that was a great looking basket case when I got it. Rusted out on the inside, wouldn't feed ammo, but looked great. I got everything working on the inside after taking it apart four separate times. Did an action job short of the trigger spring on the third tear down.

Now I just need a rear sight, but I've never been a big peep sight fan.

Also, when did Rossi start making these things? Mine is an Interarms import with the cat badge and a four digit serial number. No bolt safety.

Nobody?

I emailed stevesguns about it recently. If life was a movie they would cue the cricket chirping and wolf howl.

i put a old used lyman tang sight on my older 92 navy arms import rossi 44-40, i used the rossi tang screws from midway and turned the heads down to fit the counter sunk holes in the lyman tang sight. eastbank.
