So, today I got a Mossberg 500a with a nice Mossberg slugster barrel...

for $125!

Went to transfer it into my name, and it was "delayed"...until 3/25.

I don't have anything more than a DUI on my record, if that... and that didn't even show up on the criminal background check from the sheriff's office for a child custody case (trying to help some of the wife's family out)...

I had a "domestic peace disturbance" charge like 3 years ago, which was COMPLETELY dropped, I never even had to go to court...

Had a DUI like a mentioned, and was once charged with a felony, which was dismissed and gone.

My dad is a convicted felon, and there is another guy with a similar name as my dad and I who is a frequent jail visitor...

My father told me it was quite common for his purchases and pawns to get delayed as well.

Has this happened to you? Why, and how does one resolve it?

Thanks,
Steve

Go VAP and get a UPIN. (Voluntary Appeal File) That should put an end to it.

Assuming we are talking about an NICS check.

And if we are talking about a NICS check, you can't be delayed until "3/25", you just get "delayed". The guy running the check gets NO indication of how long the delay will take. Could be 3 minutes, 3 hours, or 3 days.

Probably what he meant was that AFTER three business days had passed, you could come pick up the gun, -if- they had not gotten a DENY back from NICS by then.

I think the poster meant VAF, Voluntary Appeal File. In theory, once you have successfully submitted one, you are issued a UPIN (Unique Personal ID number) so NICS knows about your unique situation and doesn't have to go digging every transfer.

May speed things up, may not. I've got an opinion I'll share later.

It's a delay, right? It's not a denial. You wait it out like the rest of us who have been delayed from time to time. The systems get bogged down sometimes.

I had a delay about two years ago, first gun I bought in maybe 25 years. No more delays after that. I wouldn't worry about it.

Good to go, picked up the shotgun today. One day after my birthday!

Guess I will pick up the Saiga on Tuesday.

??????

Maybe it is the jail visitor whose purchases are delayed, not GWARGHOUL's father. A convicted felon should (will) be denied and commits a federal felony by applying if he lies on the form. If he doesn't lie, the dealer should simply refuse the sale.

I should have clarified this..

My dad used to be a collector. His screw-ups came about 3 years ago, and continue (unfortunately).

He can't even come in my house until I lock my guns up in a solid closet with a bolt lock, much less buy one!
