Well, I won the auction, still have to pay for it.

I blame some other posters on a different forum, we were talking bolt action guns and of course the venerable Mauser came up. Having fired a few in the past, and loving it though my favorite was the G 33/40 and I've always wanted one. Checked the prices and found they were way out of my range then I found the Portuguese M1904/39 Mauser, NRA condition Good for $450. Most I found were going for at least twice that price.
This is not a true Mauser but a blend of Mauser with a Manlicher action manufactured by Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken for the Portuguese chambered for the 6.5mm round. In 1939 when Portugal converted to the K98 the M1904s were rechambered in 8mm.
These are solidly made, accurate and reliable rifles. When I finally get mine I'll post pictures.
Here's the actual photo from the sale:

Looks great!!!
And caliber is?
Let the reloading quest begin!!!!!
And please keep us informed of accuracy!

Thankfully I found my C&R after nearly tearing my home office apart, I put it in a place I normally wouldn't and it got buried.......
That at least saves me $25 though I was surprised at the additional costs associated with buying on GB, almost $80 for taxes, shipping and GB fees. This was my first time using GB though even with the added cost it's still cheaper than anywhere else I looked. These are becoming more rare, heck if I bought a matching bayonet it would set me back almost $300 as they are very rare.

That's a relief. I would not consider 6.5x58 to be at all available and not easy to set up to reload.
I saw a couple that were chambered in the 6.5 and while you can still get ammo it's not cheap by any stretch of the imagination besides I was specifically looking for 8mm.
