I re-upped my NRA membership for another year, albeit one year early and made an additional contribution.

What have you done?

I'm a Life Member, but I still send money regularly.

I am also a Life Member of the Second Amendment Foundation and I'm a member of a couple others. If we all don't pitch in some money now, we'll save a lot later - on guns we won't be able to buy at any price!

I convinced my wife and mother to join the NRA. I'm already a life member. I also told a friend about the $300 dollar life membership, and he joined. I also regularly donate...

Interesting how this tread only received 9 posts where as "Which gun should I buy before Obama takes office" threads are getting a lot more posts. We should think more about how to help the cause than filling our safes! Put that money where it will do the most good, NRA, GOA, whatever organization you wish, just do it soon!

I've lost all faith in the NRA and will not support them. They have been behind every major anit-gun legislation since 1934 and they even stood in the way of the Heller case.

I support the GOA.

The NRA will sell our "black rifles" and "hi capacity" magazines down the river once again. This time it won't sunset.

Regardless, we do need to get out there and begin a HEAVY fax, phone call and email campaign.

I am a strong supporter of the NRA in every respect. My entire family have been loyal members for years.

-Cheers

I voted for McCain to keep my gun rights.
Ditto... unfortunately, I don't think that will cut it.
I'm not currently a member, but I will be now. I've been meaning to join for years, but I always procrastinate. I can't do that anymore. I will get on their site and join today.

Funny, on their website, before the election, they apparently thought of renewing the Clinton ban as a bad thing.

Please, don't bash the NRA just for the sake of bashing the NRA.

I joined this year, and made a supplemental contribution just before the election.

Now I will be looking at also joining GOA. I would appreciate any opinions on this move.

"The National Rifle Association has been in support of workable, enforceable gun control legislation since its very inception in 1871." —NRA Executive Vice President Franklin L. Orth
NRA's American Rifleman Magazine, March 1968, P. 22

"The NRA supported The National Firearms Act of 1934 which taxes and requires registration of such firearms as machine guns, sawed-off rifles and sawed-off shotguns. ... NRA support of Federal gun legislation did not stop with the earlier Dodd bills. It currently backs several Senate and House bills which, through amendment, would put new teeth into the National and Federal Firearms Acts." —American Rifleman, March 1968, P. 22

In 2007, the NRA joined forces with the very people who would love to disarm American's -- the Brady Campaign. Who helped craft H.R. 2640? Why Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) and FORMER NRA BOARD MEMBER Rep. John Dingell (D-MI).

What the NRA says they support and what they ultimately do are completely two different things. You have a board member, on video in the link above, saying clearly he supports a magazine ban (anything over 5 rounds). If you recall, the '94 ban included a ban on magazines over 10 rounds.

I'm not bashing just to be bashing, I'm giving you hard facts. You don't like those facts and wish to continue to support an organization that has historically negotiated our rights away.

How do you justify their attempts to thwart the SCOTUS hearing the Heller case?

Good idea. They are the purist of the pro-gun organizations. They won't compromise and make deals that ban "black rifles" and "hi capacity" magazines like the NRA is inclined to do.

It's time people who have an interest in nothing more than revolvers, bolt action rifles and shotguns wake up and realize selling semi-auto's down the river isn't a sound strategy. We either stand united, or we are divided and disarmed - all of us.

So two quotes from 1968 from the same article turned you anti NRA. As for hard facts where are the ones supporting the claims of them partnering up with the Brady bunch. I like to think the NRA has definitely done more good than harm.

If the NRA had their way, the Heller case would have never been heard by the SCOTUS. You do understand the importance of the Heller case, right?

Did you bother to watch the YouTube video of the NRA board member talking about his support for assault rife bans and magazine capacity bans? That wasn't filmed in 1968.

The quotes I provided showed that they were in support of the two largest anti-gun bills ever to pass Congress, the 1934 and 1968 Gun Control Acts. I'm sorry if you don't see the relevance.

Also just to add it is great that your involved and passionate about our cause as are a lot of us but don't knock our efforts as we don't yours.

So that was 1 board member right? OK I thought so I highly doubt that it was the entire NRAs standing. You do remember that the day of the Heller decision the NRA started cases in other gun grabbing cities such as Chicago and San Fran? I do.

Another interesting tidbit of info.

After Katrina the local governments decided to confiscate firearms from the citizens. Can you name which pro-gun organizations filed emergency stay orders in federal court to stop the confiscations?

1) NRA
2) GOA
3) JPFO

Answer: GOA/JPFO

The NRA took two weeks to do anything, and when they did act they joined the GOA/JPFO suit. Two weeks! Then, after it was all said and done they reached deep into the well stuffed pockets and made a nice propaganda video taking all the credit for the hard work of GOA/JPFO.

How wonderful. Once again, just like with Katrina, they decided to jump on the bandwagon after it had already left the station. They had to do something after opposing Heller and us getting the victory anyway. They need those donations to flow so they can keep paying their bills.

Why is it every time someone posts something someone else doesn't agree with or like that person is immediately a "basher"? I'm not "attacking" your efforts, I'm trying to share important information. You need to be concerned with the actions of those whom you entrust to protect your rights. I'm showing a clear history of negligence and offering an alternative. If you cared about your gun rights, you might be inclined to at least listen and not attack me.
