pyrodex pellets suck bad

I had bought my Triple 7 from BassPro. It was maybe 30 mins away. But then for months they didn't have it in 3F. I was told to try online, and looked at Grafs, which doesn't require a large order. I didn't like the idea of paying the excessive HazMat fee, but what I found was all said and done if I bought three pounds at a time I about broke even. But I didn't have to go anywhere or waste my time coming home empty handed.

As a bonus they have the energetic BP I was curious about. Olde Eynsford is much cheaper and so I buy mostly that these days as it doesn't change my POI compared to T7 and the volume stays the same. It's as close to interchangeable as can be for me.

"The original Pyrodex Pellet designed for use in 50 caliber, in-line rifles. A single 50/50 pellet may be used for a light target or small game load while two 50/50 pellets may be combined to provide a potent 100 gr. equivalent load for big game. They are packed 100 pellets to the box and 24 pellets to the card. It may be used with standard caps, musket caps or 209 ignition systems."
This.

My son grabbed Pyrodex pellets instead of 777; they were fine in his CVA Wolf, not so good in the Hawken.

I usually shoot 777 in my ROA. However when out on the range I use the expensive pellets. I make a few cartridges by putting a drop of superglue on the pellet. I glue the bullet to the pellet. I put some of these in my saddle bags. They are handy no fumble rounds.

I've seen it mentioned before of someone considering trying this. It sounds a bit interesting. But in your situation (on horseback) I'd wonder about durability. Do you do anything special to protect them?

However I have two revolvers that like different loads and so I couldn't tailor them for this, though my Remington does indeed like 30 grns (assuming my 30 grns is much like theirs - I use an adjustable rifle measure).

I also have a boat load of American Spirits rolling papers...

My ROA would disagree.
Been using Pyrodex pellets and loose powder for a few years with not one single issue.
I clean my ROA when done.
Rinse and repeat.
Ad nauseam.

rodwa, Yes, they are kept in a small plastic jar. I have a piece of padding in the jar. I can make paper cartridges but this is quick and and handy.

No doubt it's much simpler, easier, and quicker to do as you have.

I'm no pistolero so I'll take all the accuracy I can. I'm doing good to get 3-3.5" groups at 15 yds (an often flier opens that another inch) offhand.

But I also find the little extra things enjoyable (usually). Casting projectiles, making paper cartridges, making Gatofeo lube, punching wads, etc. is just a part of the fun. However I poured my extra lube into a soap mold and used that like a crayon to lube my bullets, which is tedious and no longer that when I have 100 in front of me.
