513AD0E5-E77B-4BB9-99B7-7CA85838E9BC.jpeg So I tried these for the first time today.
They were easy to load but I think there was a split second time delay from the cap going off to the gun firing. I only notice it because I am very use to shooting my gun with real black powder. Feels like it takes longer to go off. I anyone else ever had this experience with these???

Yes. Mostly with the first few though, so I wondered if it was oil in the nipples. They definitely don’t go off as easily as black.

I have posted this before but in an article in the Backwoodsman magazine a fellow was using these and he filled the hollow base with 3F powder then glued a peice of tissue paper over the bottom to hold the 3F in place. He said it gave instant ignition and seemed to boost the power of the pellet.

I would like to try some myself just to see. I have been watching YT videos on making paper cartridges just to make loading a little faster on the 1858 I just got. Making the cartridges looks pretty easy. I made my mandrel last night. Now I need some rolling papers. My new #11 nipples should be delivered friday.

My one and only experience with them was similar to the OP's. I also did not find them any more convenient to carry or load as compared to a flask - let alone paper cartridges.

I only put about 30 rounds down range. I picked up a new rifle and wanted to try it out so I mostly shot that. I also want to try the 777 pellets and see how they work. I love this new rifle. I don’t know why I did t get one long ago

Keep in mind that this test is Pyrodex Pellets vs Black Powder.

Pyrodex pellets are not the same as Pyrodex powder and from what I read 2f black powder produces more fowling than 3f black powder which makes an even stronger case for black powder being a better choice for reliability otherwise the video looks about right to me.

The Pryodex Pistol Pellets (30 grain charges) have a little sliver of black powder to aid ignition in percussion guns the last time I checked (a long time ago.)

I don't know but I think Pyrodex Powder might perform better since it's supposed to be very close in formulation to black powder. A test using Pyrodex powder, preferably the same grade as the Black Powder you choose would be interesting.

Thank you for this video.

Would you like to make a video comparing Swiss 3f (preferably) or even Olde Eynsford 3F powder to Pyrodex P (P for pistol the 3f equivalent) powder ? I would be glad to provide a donation for you to purchase the powder.

Sure. The real cost is the caps and the lead balls nowadays though. FYI I did a similar test of loose pyrodex P versus Triple Se7en, shooting pyrodex in the pistol that previously was evaluated using black powder. Both pistols passed the test and ran for over 100 shots without locking up or otherwise failing.
