I may have a shot at a mint Python 4" blued, 1966 vintage with original box. Its been fired very little. anyone here know what something like this is fetching these days?

Thanks.

$1200 - 1500. Check gunauction and gunbroker for current listings.
Um, no.

OP- I'm betting north of $2000. Pythons are fetching crazy prices, if you've got one in good shape like you said and with original box, it'll be worth a lot more than $1200-$1500.

I wish I still had mine it was a 4 inch nickel Python I bought for $400 new back in 1979.

As others have stated they are going for some amazing prices today. Shooter grade Pythons are in the $1000 area. The better the condition the higher the price. I have seen some with a 2 1/2" barrel go for as high as $4000. Of course the more ornate guns will be well over that. I got my first Python, a 6" Royal Blue model, in 1979 for $385 new. With a Bianchi 5BH holster and a box of Remington 38 Special +P ammo all total was about $425. In 2007 I obtained a shooter grade 4" Royal Blue Python for $800 OTD used at a local gun shop.

Those were the days. I bought my Smith & Wesson Model 66 brand new in 1983 for $258.

The buying power of $400 in 1979 is roughly equivalent to $1290 today. That's cheaper than many of them are selling for today, certainly, but it's not like they were dirt cheap in 1979.

OP:

In a lot of shops around here, the tag on something like that would run $2000 or higher. :what:

$2200 would be the asking price at the biggest Python flippers table in my area. I wouldn't give over $1800 provided it had the original stocks.

I have a mint, unfired, box with the paperwork 4" a few years newer. I figure it's a solid $2200 gun in today's market.

I currently know where a nice fired 4" with box and paperwork is for $2000....I am waiting on the price to fall.

I sold a beautiful 4" Python for $1100, because it had an issue with the "hand" not working well when cocked right handed. I'm a lefty, and it worked fine left handed. I sold it because it fell from favor due to its minor malfunction.

After I sold it, I learned that Colt will usually repair them for free, and all you do is pay shipping. Been regretting selling it ever since. Check our Gunbroker under Python, and see the prices rise while you watch! The value seems to jump $100 every time I look at them.

I guess I'll just love on my S&Ws, Rugers, and Tauruses.
