Gents,

Anybody on here mount a tang peep on their Hawken?

I've got an older T/C with three screws in the tang, which I assume means it's tapped for one.

If you've done this before, does the T/C tang peep come with mounting screws, so you can just back out the existing ones and screw in the new ones to install?

Did you remove the rear sight and what did you do for the holes in the barrel?

Any other suggestions/gotchas/alternatives for this?

I have a tang peep on my T/C Hawken, been so long I don't remember, it must have been easy or I would remember. I used two plug screws on the barrel, I think they are 6-48.

The tang sight really improved my shooting.

I installed a Vernier Tang with Globe front on my TC Hawkin several years ago.
With that combo, at 75 yds. all of my shots could be puy into one ragged hole.
The down side was that it was a poor choice for poor lighting conditions, early morning or late afternoons.
I went back to the "irons".

I have not installed a vernier tang on a Hawken but I have installed them on my 2 High Walls. The installation is not difficult but you must do it correctly to get it to work properly. The staff must be at right angle to the bore and be centered with no deviation right or left. If you do not have windage adjustment on the vernier than be prepared to spend some time adjusting the front sight. When all is done you will have a excellent sighting system on your rifle. When you get some practice you will see just how fast and accurate thees old sights are. Take your time and do it right.

I got mine back in the day when the peep came with the rifle, in addition to the barrel mounted sight. Yes, it came with the mounting screws. Everything came set up to work on the TC rifle, so it was just a matter of removing the barrel sights and screwing on the tang sight (use Loctite on the threads). I remove the peep insert when hunting, because as Zeke said, it's hard to see through in poor light. You basically end up with a ghost ring when you remove it because the hole is so big. It does take some time getting used to it, but if you concentrate on the front sight, your eye will automatically center it in the rear hole, and good accuracy is very possible with it. That setup does work well in poor light, actually better than the barrel mounted rear sight for me.

I think Mine came with one machine screw and I re-used the wood tang screw. When I was using it I used the stock front sight and left the rear on, The rear can be screwed down max if it interferes with the sight picture.

TC Tang

I've had a TC tang for years. It's not the best for hunting or low light.I have my 50 set up with a GM 1 in 28 w/iron sights, and the tang for longer distance, and no front globe;also I've drilled out the peep to be open like a hunting sight.
