Does anyone use the T/C Hunter peep sight on their Hawken? If so, how is yours installed?

I've installed mine using the lower wood screw, and the existing machine screw hole between the two wood screw holes on the old-style tang.

But I'm now hitting 6 inches below point of aim at the highest possible adjustment of the rear sight.

T/C Tang Sight...

I have one on my T/C Cherokee, but how mine is mounted won't help you.

Maybe this posting (bumps it back to top) and info will help spur others to chime in on this.

Courtesy of the Skinner Peep Sight company website, here's the formula you can use to calculate "how much adjustment" you will need, either in a lower front sight or moving the Tang Sight up the tang:
(It says "levergun or Marlin, but the formula works for all.)

1. Shoot your rifle at a known range (say 50 yards). Note the distance you need the impact to change (say 6 inches lower).

2. Measure the sight radius of your rifle (22 inches on most Marlins).

3. The change needed is calculated by changing all measurements to inches then multiply the sight radius by the desired change in impact and divide that product by the range in inches.

4. The result is the additional height needed for the front sight. To get the height of the new front sight add the current height and the calculated number from (3).

Example:
I need to shoot 6 inches lower at 50 yards with my 1894, 44 Mag. With a 22 inch sight radius. My current front sight is .350” tall from the bottom of the dovetail to the top of the sight.

50 yards = 50X36=1800 inches

Desired height change is = 22 (sight radius) X6 (desired change) /1800 (range) = 0.073 inches. My new front sight needs to be 0.350+0.073 or 0.423 inches tall.

Hope this helps!

I just ordered one for my Lyman Deerstalker.

I used to use a Williams reciever sight, but it is very clunkey, but I had no problem sighting in with it.

Will the sight mount using the upper and middle hole?

Id sell the Williams one for a good price if you are interested.

I had a Vernier Tang sight and globe front on my T/C Hawkin and the rifle shot with exceptional accuracy.
The sight was not good in the poor light of the hunting woods so I went back to the "irons".

Looks like it was more operator error than anything else. The sight was not at max elevation; i was hung up on a burr. From past experience I'm very reluctant to just push past a noticable change in resistance; I've sheared or stripped far too many bolts & screws.

Ole No. 7: Hadn't thought of applying "similar triangles"; it was a fun math exercise. Thanks!

Bwana John: There is too much curvature of the tang between the top & middle hole for the sight to sit well. And the lower hole configuration puts the disc at a very good distance from my eye. I checked today at the local monthly blackpowder shoot, and the other four guns with tang peep sights are using the same holes I am.

Thanks all!
