I recently encouraged a new, young shooter to participate in the NRA Marksmanship Qualification Program . It's done on the honor system, at any convenient range, and it allows you to earn pins and patches that reflect the various levels of achievement.

It looks like fun. What the heck, I'm going to try it myself - Light Rifle and Handgun can be fired with any old .22, nothing fancy is required.

Anyone here ever do this?

Never heard of it, but I'm thinking about taking it up.

Would probably suffice for the required handgun training within the last 3 yrs for (hopefully) Nebraska's CCW soon to pass our legislature. :D

Been thinking about taking an NRA Instructor class, too. I'm presently certified as a RO by NROI.

I ran through the "Handgun" qualification program in a couple of shooting sessions for fun. Thought it was pretty easy. I started on one of the air rifle programs (since I could shoot in my garage) and got to the limits of my ability pretty quickly. All that to say that some of the programs are too easy and some are quite difficult.

It's kind of a fun thing to do if you're going to be shooting anyway.

The Scout Troop that I'm involved with is starting this up (tomorrow actually - I was online earlier doing research for it :D ). Most of the guys have gotten their merit badge & we were looking for something else to keep them interested.

They should be able to get the lower qualifications/rankings fairly easily & when they get good enough to go for the upper level ones we'll just have to find some sanctioned shoots to enter them in.
