A little background before my question:
I recently picked up a new Smith M69 and discovered that the barrel is either clocked or crooked. I've been monkeying around with picking aftermarket front and rear sights because I cannot see the factory sights in dim lighting...and I remembered that I have a new RMR06 that I sorta forgot about. I have a lot of experience with red dots on autos, so I'm gonna give it a try. I don't think the barrel "problem" will bother me with an RMR because I won't see how crooked the barrel is.
I know that Smith would fix the barrel, but I'm sorta tired of sending new Smiths back in for warranty work lately.
My goal is to be able to draw and fire five full-house (SAAMI spec) .44 Mag loads with little warning and hit an 8-inch plate in 4 seconds or less at 15 yards. Not sure that I will ever be able to, but it sounds like fun to start training for it. For me, an RMR will make this easier for accuracy and in most lighting conditions.
Today I ordered an Allchin plate for my M69 to mount the RMR. On to holsters...
What have others found to work? I see that Speed Bees makes a proper Kydex holster for my pistol and "most red dots" and I'll probably order one to be all set for camping season in five weeks. Over the long term I'd like to find a quality leather pancake that will accommodate the RMR and 2.75 inch barrel. Can anyone point me to a custom maker (leather or Kydex) that can deliver in eight weeks-ish for revolver holsters and reflex sights? My usual Kydex guy (JMCustomKydex) isn't listing anything for revolvers.
On that note, what do folks actually prefer for lounging around camp? Chest rigs? Shoulder? To be clear, I'm into "Overlanding", which is just a fancy term for "car-camping" with a 4WD. I spend a lot of time as far away from other campers as I can get on my own. Typical activities include sitting in my chair, tending the fire, cooking, chopping wood, drinking beer. You get the idea.
I'd appreciate hearing from others that have looked into this already.
