Something tells me there will be a new assault weapons ban in the next year or two - and that the new ban won't have a 10 year sunset like the previous one.

As a result, I am considering trying to get grandfathered on a few items off my wish list. I'm just curious if I should expect a 3:00 AM knock on the door, or even a 3:00 PM knock on the door, if I were to purchase 5 AR-15's or even just 5 AR-15 stripped lowers in one purchase. Anyone have experience of buying several guns at once? Up to now, the most I have ever bought has been one at a time and no more than 2 or 3 in any given month.

Thanks

Dale

Don't count on a new AWB, as the Supreme Court has laid down the decree that an entire class of weapons cannot be banned. However buying 5 ARs will help to contribute to the "in common usage" phrase used in the ruling. :)

As far as I know, the feds could care less about bulk purchases of rifles, semi auto or not. If you were to purchase, say, 20 handguns at once, you might be a higher priority.

Multiple rifle or shotgun purchases are no big deal, no matter how evil the type(s) are. Buy a gross (12 dozen) of AR-15's with bayonets if you want to. It won't get you any knocks on the door, at least not from ATF. If you're in a nanny state or People's Republic, it's possible, but unlikely, that things could be different.

Multiple handgun purchases (2 or more within 7 of the selling dealer's business days) require that the seller file a special form with the ATF. There shouldn't be any knocks at the door, but if you bought, say, 100 Glock 23's for no apparent reason, I would not be surprised to get a call or visit as they would likely suspect you were reselling them illegally. Assuming you were not, and were willing to show that you still possessed them, that would be the end of the inquiry. If you buy 2 or 3 handguns at a time, I really doubt you would have any issue.

You can bet that many THR members buy either multiple guns at once or within short periods of time.

multiple

I am not negative on multiple buys but what have you in your mind?are you going to use them all at once, large family.I like the ar I have but two, naar.I would want a high power like Garand or some other semi.more ammo is better.

I only have two hands and it generally takes both of them to hold a rifle. :)

I settled on 5 because I have two sons and we go shooting together so that means having 3 could be fun. In general, that's been my target number. Considering that what I own by next year may be all that I can ever own, buying a couple extra now just seems to make sense.
