I had moved from a 3rd floor apartment to a 2nd floor apartment, and never bothered to change my license (there are only 3 apartments in the building, and mine is the only one on the 2nd floor).

When I bought a gun the other month, I didn't even think about it until filling out the paperwork, when I wrote down the correct apartment #, and therefore did not match my license. The guy at the store made the correction, and everything else was fine.

When buying my second gun, I figured it was just easier to not even mention it, and use my old apartment # on the paperwork.

Will these records end up being cross-checked against eachother, and therefore show an inconsistency leading to a phone call, letter, or possibly somebody coming to see me?

Also, when you move, are you required to notify somebody so they know where you moved to?

Better get it fixed.

In some cases, it may be a legal offense to not update your Driver's license when you move.

Not updating a concealed carry license is almost always a legal offense. In TX it will result in suspension of the license.

At any rate, putting false information on a 4473 isn't a good idea.

Unless you work for the Sheriffs dept. Type and mail a change of address notification to the State Police. Otherwise just tell the chief and have him take care of it. Better yet.... just do it yourself unless you wanted to get jeeped for being a newbie.

The guy at the store made the correction, and everything else was fine.
That in itself is a problem. As a legal document only the person who filled out and signed the document can make corrections.

It would be easier to give an applicable answer if we had some inkling of where you are.
Federal paperwork will probable never be scrutinized to that extent, some states will get in a tizzy over the same information.

If I were you I would just get your licenses updated and move on. Its not like you used an old license from a different state or something. Heck, in Indiana the BMV does not even list apartment numbers on driver's licenses or state IDs. I verified this with one of the employees at the desks and confirmed it with a branch manager. If anyone cares, they told me that the apartment number is on file for state mailing and correspondence issues, but is not displayed on the cards for privacy issues.

Agree with Matthew.

Trying to fix things now would be difficult. However, you need to get your address changed on the license. Continuing to leave a paper trail proving that you've been putting false information on federally mandated legal forms, is going to lead you to grief eventually.

Let's say that you get into a self-defense situation and use the gun. I believe that there is a good chance they'll verify the provenance of the firearm. Let's say it's stolen and used in a crime--or you report it stolen. Again, the paperwork will be dug out and looked over.

Find the forms, fork over the fee and get your license address fixed.

FWIW, one of the first questions our customers are asked, " is the
information on your drivers license (or government issued ID) correct"?
If it is indeed different, then we have to have another legal document
with the correct information on it. We always make copies of the said
documents and attached it too the 4473~!:uhoh: :D
