question about how much to shoot a mouse gun.

I own a Seecamp 32 and a Kel TEC P3AT .. On both guns I have read they are not range guns so get familar with it, load it and carry. With emphasis on they are not designed to be shot for a fun day at the range. Maybe people say that becaue of the price of ammo. Reloaders do it for about 10¢ a pop.or less.


I also read over and over, shot placement is as important or more important than the Caliber one carries. That makes sense to me. This makes me think, if true that a mouse gun will not stand up to frequent pratice at the range for that important shot placement, even at 9 feet, I need a different gun.

Curious about what others think about the first statement, Mouse guns are not to be used for a fun day at the range?

I have Glock 17l, Smith model 41 22 caliber and a Taurus 608 with a 8 3/8 barrel. They are range guns imo and i expect them to shoot all day long with some cleaning from time to time.

I have owned all the kel-tec's p32 ,p 3at p11 &pf9. ,2 beretta's 22lr and 32 acp . seecamp 32.I shoot them enough to see if they are reliable with ammo .Then I carry them.

Not for a fun day at the range? Perhaps not, but if one is going to be your primary or only armament, you need to practice enough to be reasonably proficient with it. Shoot your "fun day at the range" gun to your heart's content for fun, but it makes no sense to train only with that gun but then carry the mousegun.

Call me crazy but I think my LCP is fun to shoot. Sure it's not really what I would consider to be a "range gun" of course. It's not uncomfortable to shoot and it's accurate enough to have fun with. Because of the cost of ammo (I don't reload .380) I don't usually shoot more than a box or 2 at a time on the weekend but that's enough practice to keep me in tune with it. I like shooting snubbies too. Heck, I like shooting almost anything.

Well, how often do you practice with any other gun, hopefully often enough to be able to use when you need to. If it is your primary, you need to train on it, because it is your primary.

I shot my P11 enough that burrs would develop on the underside of the slide. Not an endurance gun, thats for sure. I'd rather carry the slightly larger G26, and shoot it all day without wearing it out. A carry gun must be practiced with, accurate, large enough to get a grip on, none of the qualities that KelTecs have. They make good belly guns, thats about it. Keltec even claims their guns have a certain round limit, not something I'm wanting in my carry gun choice.

I had a LCP that had a large amount of loads through it probably 5000 or more was a range gun I got cheap. Only issue I had with it is the plastic pins cracked in half after I put another probably 500 rounds through it and I had to replace them Ruger sent them free of charge. It was showing some serious wear on the back of the firing pin where the hammer strikes and the spring guide was showing some wear on the end. It did have some issue cycleing lately so we traded it in for a sig 238

I wouldn't choose a gun for self defense that I wasn't comfortable putting in regular practice with. It makes no sense to me to shoot the gun just enough to test reliability and then stick it in your holster or drawer and forget about it until the BG shows up. I want to feel confident that shooting and handling the gun is second nature to me. Maybe some folks are just naturals and can pick up any gun any time and shoot it well. I am not one of those.

Last time I got out of practice with a mousegun I did run into an issue. I wasn't used to the recoil and upon firing it for the first time in awhile, I accidently hit the magazine release under recoil. Practice definitely pays.

Governments seem to think that 6-8000 rounds is a fairly good endurance / no failure standard for service pistols.

I own a Kel-Tec P32 and I use it as my main pocket carry gun.

For a mouse gun, I shoot it a lot.
My estimated round count is around 3000.

Figured if I'm going to rely on it, I need to be proficient with it and also because it's inexpensive, why not shoot it until if falls apart then buy another one or two.

Quiet .. you read my mind.. I was thinking,we live in the world of throw away tools and guns. Practice until kel tec cant fix then buy an new one. Really like the CT on my P3AT special edition. .

Yup...shoot the heck out them.

When customer service gets tired of seeing it, they will send you another (Keltec likely will anyway).

Who cares if it breaks or dies in practice anyway? You will at least come out with a true picture of what you can expect.
