Question about Savage 94 barrel interchange

Hi All

I have a JC Higgins (Savage model 94) 16 gauge shotgun from the early 50's. On Ebay there is a 12 guage barrel for a Savage model 94. My question is will this barrel fit my frame? Thank you.

The short answer to your question is NO .

A little explaination however : There is a chance that it could physically fit. I believe the recievers for the 16ga and 12ga were likely the same size (if I recall correctly) , but there are fitting criteria to each barrel. (such as headspace & locking block fitting) Even today the NEF replacement barrels are factory fitted and not just interchangable on their single barrel guns.
