There is a Saxet Gun Show scheduled in Austin, TX for Feb. 20,21. I am not a dealer - just a regular Joe. I want to come and buy something if I find what I want, but I may also want to bring along a 1911 pistol to sell. Am I allowed to bring something to sell, or do I have to pay the $55 charge for a dealer's table?

Yes, you can bring the gun to sell. However, you will find it difficult to land your plane in the lot and the MGs will need ATF approval. :D

Sir, you can sell inside the building after paying the entrance fee. Or you can sell in the parking lot before the show opens (long line). This is Texas. There is no limitation on private sales except the (federal) obvious: don't sell to felons, don't sell to the wives/girlfriends of felons (strawman), don't sell to people who have a halting use of the english language and no ID, don't sell to people with out-of-state (country) ID. Don't sell to the drunk. Don't sell to the stoned. Don't sell to the guy who tells you 'the voices inside my head are telling me to buy a gun'. But that was covered in the terse and to the point prior post...

Go early coz the parking fills up fast and make a legible receipt.

SAXET can be a pretty decent show. Plenty of horribly high prices, but I've found one or two awesome deals each time I've gone. Highlights include a $150 Ruger MkII with holster, a $225 Ruger Speed Six 9mm, and last time I just missed a $200 Marlin 39A that looked brand-new.

Just laugh off the high prices and enjoy the good deals. And hope that your .45 is one of the high prices. As goofy as it sounds, I like to put a little sign on my back saying "KIMBER 1911 $650" or whatever I'm selling. It gets attention, and folks who don't notice what's on my hip will notice the sign as I walk by.

Oh, and there are tons of good taquerias nearby to grab lunch before or after. Or if you have more exotic tastes, Swad (9515 N Lamar Blvd # 156, just south o SAXET) has awesome South Indian food, very cheap and tasty.

Don't listen to that guy. The place to eat is the new chinese shopping complex north of the Saxet, same side of the street, opposite Kramer Rd.

First Chinese BBQ is pretty awesome, what with the ducks hanging in the window and all that. Had some great chow there. It's a really nice complex overall, well-run and neat and all. Vaguely reminds me of the Vietnamese enclave of Seven Corners just outside of D.C.

SAXET has been pretty busy the last few months, so I imagine your pistol will sell quickly at any reasonable price. On common popular items you can get better money walking around at a show than on GunBroker. Folks are willing to pay a premium for a gun they can see in person, and plenty of folks there don't know how to get a better price online, and will be comparing your prices to storefront retail instead.

To re-enforce the message of MV. People are looking to purchase as a private sale to avoid 'Nobama' and his minions from finding a paper trail that would result in registration-confiscation. You can sell for reasonable price, even an enhanced price. Don't sell to a dealer, he will discount the purchase price coz he has to sell at retail. As an FTF seller, you should get retail. As a FTF seller, your price includes: right of inspection, immediacy, no paperwork, no exorbiant shipping/transfer cost. Before selling ask yourself this, "would I trust this guy to date my sister?". No trust = no sale.
