Question about scopes sold at Walmart

I saw this: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=13143014 in Walmart today for 40 something dollars while I was picking up some more 22LR (they had some in stock ). I was just wondering if anyone on here has experience with this brand. Obviously, it won't be as rugged as an Aimpoint M68 or comparable red dot sight, but I'm just looking for a cheap red dot sight for the wife's tacticool 22LR. As long as it'll hold it's zero and not die if it gets drizzled on I'll be happy. It'll only be subjected to the negligable recoil of a 22 and only need to be accurate out to 100 yards.

Actually, on 2nd look, this one: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=13288592 might be a better idea. Says on the website that it's waterproof, shockproof, and fog proof and it's only $30 more.

I wouldn't mind spending $93, I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience with these scopes. Are they any good?

I have the BSA version on my son's 10/22 and it has performed fine.

It tends to eat batteries pretty quick so have a spare and if the sun is really bright, the red dot will be hard to see, even on the highest setting.

I do NOT have one, and its not likely that I will.

Having said that, I will comment nonetheless.

Expect to get what you pay for on a $40 optic.

I find it curious that the TASCO company web site makes no mention of what battery size is used, or what kind of battery life you might expect.

If its like other cheap red-dot scopes, you'll need to install a new battery every time you take it to the range. Expect durability to be highly questionable. Probably OK for a .22 or airsoft. I wouldn't give it the opportunity to ruin a hunt, or fail under difficult conditions.

I think I'll give the $93 Hi-lux one a try (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=13288596), as long as the batteries aren't expensive. I don't really want to spend more than $150 tops on a red dot sight for a tacticool 22LR.

I'll buy a real deal Aimpoint for my Sig 556 later on.

Should you want a scope-scope for the gun, the Nikon 4x32mm ProStaff Rimfire Classic at Wal-Mart for 100 bucks with rings is about the best value out there, in a scope for a .22LR IMO.

I've had one Tasco and one BSA. I don't have them any more, and I won't get another of either.

I would suggest a Bushnell fixed 4x for about $30.00 at said WW, the optics are decent, and the best feature is it will hold up well (the ones I have/had all did) and the battery life is infinite (but the reticle will appear black in color ).
