Fella's;

On another thread here, "Here We Go Again", I asked why don't schools have the NRA's Eddie Eagle program in to teach kids what to do if they come across a firearm. I implied that the reason schools don't do it, is prejudice against firearms. Another poster replied that it was because schools in his state can't fund for it.

Does the NRA charge to bring the Eddie Eagle program in? I'd be surprised if they did, as that policy would seem to be counter-productive, but I don't know for sure.

If the program can be brought to our schools, cost-free, then the only reason I can come up with to not allow it would be prejudice. Educators should do so. Firearms safety is an important set of rules that should be brought to every child early. Regardless of the parent's stand on gun ownership, children should be taught what to do if they encounter one unexpectedly. Otherwise ignorance is not bliss, it's very possibly fatal. Remember, this one really is "for the children". I'd take any other stand to be pure hypocrisy.

The NRA is committed to helping keep America's young children safe. In efforts to do so, we offer our program at a nominal fee. Schools, law enforcement agencies, hospitals, daycare centers, and libraries may be eligible to receive grant funding to defray program costs. Grant funding is available in many states to these groups to cover the cost of all program curriculum materials.

Grant funding, provided by Friends of NRA, is available in many states. Schools, law enforcement agencies, hospitals, daycare centers, and libraries are eligible to receive all program curriculum materials free of charge. See below for a complete listing of materials available free under the grant.

If you are ordering materials for a law enforcement agency, school, daycare, hospital, or library, please call the Eddie Eagle Program at (800) 231-0752 to use free grant funding.
