Where can people traveling for the holidays get ACCURATE information about carrying in their destination states and the states which they pass through?

I'll be driving through SC and staying in GA for the holidays (note to potential home invaders -- my home will NOT be empty during this time). I know that both states have reciprocity with NC, but I need to know details about where I can and can't carry and whether I need to notify law-enforcement officers if we end up in one of those stop everyone checks.

I know that NC has some odd restrictions such as no carry at parades or in any place that charges admission as well as the all-too-common ban on carry in restaurants that serve alcohol that out of state travelers would need to know. I want to stay on the right side of the law during my trip so I need really sound information.

3kb,

I call the state police of each state, through which, I aim to travel, get the name, rank, and AO of each Trooper, with whom, I speak, and get that info on what is "verboten" directly from "the horse's mouth".

the police are rarely a reliable source about what the law says, allows, or restricts.

The state police do not write the statutes, the state legislature does. The state police do not interpret the statutes, the state court system does. You are getting nothing other than the person's opinion who answers the phone call, unless they are kind enough to provide you with a published copy of the state's actual written statutes.

The three biggest sources of misinformation regarding firearms laws has historically proven to be law enforcement officers, ccw instructors and gun store operators.

+1

Hell, even the IRS says you can't hold the IRS accountable if they give you bad info on your taxes.

Big ones in SC: no 'restaurant carry' (in establishments licensed to serve liquor for consumption on premesis), no carry in hospitals/medical facilities, duty to inform LEO, no recognition of non-resident CCW permits, legal to keep loaded firearm in 'closed compartment' in vehicle (i.e. glovebox) even w/o valid CCW permit.

GA: restaurant carry OK, no duty to inform LEO. Not sure about the rest, I don't visit often enough to remember everything.

As previously mentioned, all of this stuff is on handgunlaw.us
