I have a Trooper MK V serial#48591V that I bought new in 1987. It is a 6" blued model with a wide spur hammer. The question I have is about the factory stocks. Every picture I have seen of Troopers have square butt style grips which leads me to believe these are standard or at least the most common. My MK V has rounded butt stocks with a finger cutout for the pinky. What is the story on these? Were they a limited edition or otherwise rare?

Those grips were used on the Lawman 4" MkV as standard equipment. If you bought it new, the factory must have switched it-maybe low inventory on the other style.

My recollection of the round butt style stocks is pretty much as saemetric posted; that they were primarily found on the fixed sight 4" Lawman MK. V. However I do seem to recall seeing them occasionally on some 4" Trooper MK. V guns as well. I also think that if you did find the round stocks on a Trooper it may have just been a supply/demand kind of situation when the guns were being built.

I had a 6" Trooper MK. V that had the square butt stocks and they were the most comfortable fitting factory stocks that I have ever had on a revolver.
