I have reloaded Rifle and Pistol, and am now going to start reloading for shogtun. So my question is where is the best (cheapest place) to get your components, eg. Hulls, primers, wads, shot, etc...... Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Toby

I reload for 20ga and buy most of my components through my club. I am able to get wads, powder, and shot through them. I have found that shipping negates most of my savings when purchasing online.

I have bought once fired Remington hulls from precision reloading for $6.00 a hundred.

I would ask around at a local trap of skeet club to see if someone can point you in a good and inexpensive local source.

Hulls: Buy new loaded ammo and then keep them after firing. Or, buy once-fired from a buddy who doesn't reload. I use only Win AA or Rem STS. The rest aren't worth fooling with, IMO.

Wads and Primers: Many places online to buy these. Google "shotgun reloading supplies".

Shot: Should be bought locally because shipping cost is prohibitive. Check with local shotgun range or local gun dealers.

MidwayUSA is selling 50lbs of Lawrence Magnum shot delivered to your door for less than $75. That's far less than I can buy it locally.

I've found that Remington Sport Load and Gun Club hulls reload just like STSs (with the same reloader settings). They don't last quite as long, but they're available as range pickups for free, wherever I've been. 5 or 6 reloads are plenty if the hulls are free. (This applies to 12 Gauge only.)

That said, if you shoot 12 Gauge with nothing exotic in it, I wouldn't spend any money to get into reloading. My Mec sits on a shelf, where it's been for a year or two. Reloading is fun, but it's not THAT fun.

Remington Sport Loads are $6/box at Wal-Mart. The hell if I'm going to spend $5.50/box loading my own practice shells, and gas money driving to get components. Powder and primer orders through the mail require ridiculous Hazmat fees.

Lead used to be 15 bucks a bag, for the good stuff (STS shot -- which really IS great shot). No longer.

And serious competition requires factory shells anyway.

The price of shot has come down recently. I sold some extra shot that I had to a buddy several months ago for $35 per bag. That was a little less than what it was selling for THEN.

Our club got some shot for the members last week and although I didn't buy any, I think it was about $28 per bag. If you are paying $75 for two bags, I would look elsewhere or simply shoot factory shells.

Yes, shot right now IS definately the cost factor. The best I have found so far is $62 shipped to your door for 2 bags.

Shot prices definately have come down recently. At Midwest Shooters Supply, I can buy a 25# bag for $29. I can still load a 7/8 oz. load for around $4.50 a box - definately worth while.

The best savings for shot gun is slugs and buck shot. I am about to strat castingmy own buckshot and slugs and the price is not $1 per round. I can make loaded slug rounds cheaper than my shot reloads. The shot reloads I have done preform better than any factory ammo I have bought.
