Pardon me if this is the wrong place for the question but the reloading area seems to be more for Rifle and Pistol.

Being new to reloading I was wondering why there is no interest in reloading Federal TopGun Hulls? I can see where they might not be able to be reloaded as many times as Win AA, Federal Gold, etc, but even once or twice could result in savings. What am I missing?

Any information you all could provide would be greatly appreciated.

AA hulls ain't what they used to be.

STS are still great.

However, the best bargain really are Sport Loads, Gun Club, etc. Sport Loads are available in bulk at Wal-Mart, and they reload well in a press set up for STS. They do need to be sized when you reload them. They last 6-8 reloadings, not as long as STS, but I can usually find them in the trash, so who cares?

Federal uses a melt crimp. Really nice from the factory. However, I'm not sure how well they crimp cold a second time.

Some people do reload Federals, but at my range, it's uncommon. Most reloaders do Remington; some use AA's or both. Again, most of the guys I know, as well as I, reload the cheap Remingtons, as well as STS's. Winchesters, only AA's seem to see the press. The rest go in the bucket.:)

The Top Guns can be reloaded maybe once. There's not much data for them, (and most require the more expensive OEM components rather then the replacement wads and primers.) and they don't hold a crimp very well. (Yes, I've tried.) Any Remington hull you'll get 4-15+ reloads (depending on the load). AA's about the same. Top Guns or any other of the cheapie Wallyworld Valupack hulls (Winchester Red Universals or SuperX), one maybe two reloads. So the question becomes; what's the point in reloading garbage hulls, when there are much better hulls out there.

any other of the cheapie Wallyworld Valupack hulls

Our Wallyworlds carry Remington Sport Loads in 4-packs. They're a little more than the Winchesters (they don't work the first time) or the Federals (great shells; I use them for hunting, 5-stand with a semiauto, any situation where I don't care to save them because they get too dirty). But the Remingtons are worth a bit more, since you can reload them.

Still, I find that so many people toss them in the hull bucket, I can get the hulls for free.:)
