Question for SR9c owners

For those who own a Ruger SR9c, did you clean the firing pin/striker channel before using? If so, what is involved with that? Any tools needed? Should it only be cleaned if there are problems?

I'll be getting one in a few weeks. Sounds as if some folks have had light strikes possibly due to factory grease in this channel. Is it easy to remove the magazine disconnect at time of channel cleaning?

I didn't disassemble it, just shot it with some CLP and cleaned with a nylon brush.

1000 rounds, no issues.

I didn't touch the striker assembly, but I cleaned the grease out of the area exposed by a field strip, and applied very light CLP.

Zero failures to date.

If you want to clean the assembly out, and remove the mag disco, there are videos on YouTube that are helpful. May be worth doing!

I've only field strip cleaned after shooting, for about 2,000 rounds. Then I cleaned the striker when I replaced my striker indicator with the polished one from the galloway precision website. My striker assembly was REALLY dirty. The takedown isn't bad at all, but you will need a punch set. I learned how from the ruger SR how to video on their website. I assume youtube is littered with them also. Congrats on your decision, It's a great firearm!

I sprayed mine with Outers Trilube (about the same thing as CLP) than worked it back and forth a few times set the slide down and let it dry.

I bought an SR9c (stainless) and stripped the upper to clean the striker channel. It was almost completely clean. So when I bought my second SR9c (black finish) I didn't bother to give it the same treatment. I have over 1000 rounds through each with no problems at all. I am very careful to avoid getting any sort of cleaning solution or lubricant on the breach face to keep things clean and dry in there. Another 1000 rounds through each and I might clean the striker channel again. Also, it is really simple to do. Takes about 30 seconds. I am not mechanically inclined and I had no trouble.
