Hello and thanks to all for the extraordinary amount of information shared on this forum.
I am a newish reloader and have a question on the data provided by Alliant for .357 Mag using a 148 gr LWC and Bullseye. In the 2004 Alliant Reload Guide, they show a .357 Mag load for a 148 gr LWC and 2.8 grains of Bullseye but no listing for any 148 gr LWC in the 2014 Guide. Would it be OK to use the 2004 data for this Load? Any particular reason it would have been dropped from the current guide?

Thanks again to all for knowledge and assistance that this forum provides.

Yes, a very light, target load. Probably for a HBWC. I've used 3.0-3.5 gr. under some DEWC in my .357...

mdi - Thank you for the reply! I had been loading a similar load using HP-38 but used all of that. The loads with the HP-38 were pleasant and accurate. I was able to get some Bullseye and would like to stay with a light target if I can do so safely.

The reason it was dropped is because in 2004, Alliant was a company not affiliated with any bullet company.
So they had all kinds of data for all kinds of bullets, in all kinds of calibers.

Then they became Alliant Technosystems, acquired Blount International, and suddenly owned Speer bullets, CCI primers, RCBS, Outers, Federal Ammo, Blazer ammo, and a few other companies.

At that point, they stopped publishing any data for anything except their own Speer Bullets.

Use the old data!
It is as safe now as it was then.

Are they hollow base wad cutters (HBWC) or solid double end wad cutters (DEWC)?

You have to stay with very light loads with the HBWC.

You can load the DEWC pretty light (Not as light as the HBWC), but it can also be loaded pretty stoutly.

rcmodel - Thank you! That is the context I was looking for!

Walkalong - They are DEWC. Thank you for the guidance on the difference between those bullet types! I have been reading post on this forum since April of 2007 when I thought I was going to start reloading but I didn't begin reloading until a couple of months ago! I truly appreciate the effort of the forum staff and yourself in keeping friendly and comfortable atmosphere here.

Regards, Joe

That 2.8 load seems very low for a standard 148 cast WC in 357 magnum. My Lyman manual (49th edition) shows 3.0 to 3.5 for a Bullseye load for 38 Special, let alone for 357 magnum.
