I was about to order more bullets from Dardas Cast, and they are now asking about which size you want (ie, on a 45acp 230gr LRN, you can pick .451, .452, or .453.

Silly question, but why would you want to do this? Do different reloading dies resize cases to different dimensions, or should they be the same? I guess a bigger caliber bullet would require more case mouth expansion, but once you taper crimp it down wouldn't it be the same? I suppose that if you have a slightly oversize barrel then the larger bullets should group better?

When in doubt should I just order .001" larger than the caliber (like .358 or .452)?

Most .45's will do well with .452" cast bullets.
Guns with very loose chambers & bores might prefer the .453".

Match guns with tight chambers may require the .451" to chamber.

Use the largest size that will chamber reliably and you should have good results.

Taper crimping should not squeeze down the bullet.
If it does, you are using too much crimp.
