Does leaving the Glock cocked (trigger set to fire) for long periods of time have any adverse effect, like wearing out a spring or something? -- I read you shouldn't store it cocked, but I "store it" loaded with one in the pipe :~).

Like the others have said, that's the way Glock designed it. It's hard to beat a Glock for a SHTF weapon or for CCW.

It's worth noting that the striker spring is only about 60% to 70% compressed when the gun is in the chamber loaded position. The trigger completes the rest of the compression stroke.
If a spring were likely to wear out from the gun's being left chamber loaded, it would be the trigger return spring which is at its fullest extension at this point.
That can be "remedied" with one of the plastic trigger springs--a fairly common upgrade is to put in the 3.5lb trigger connector with an NY1 trigger spring. The resulting trigger pulls is about the same weight as the original trigger pull with the coil trigger spring and the 5.5lb connector.
I say "remedied" because it's not like this is a real problem. I've got a couple of Glocks that stay in the chamber loaded condition all the time. They're completely stock (no changes to springs or connectors) and I've had no problems with them.

My G-22 stays cocked and locked year-round, never misses a beat. Can't really beat a GLOCK. I try not to be cliche, but it's true, they are TOUGH!!!

I am a little confused by this statement. Has he not fired his Glock in years? If he hasn't fired it in years, how does he know he is OK? And if he has fired it, then he hasnt had one in the pipe for years.
He's carried the weapon for probably 10 years now. He shoots it weekly, and any time the gun is not cycling from being shot, there's a round in the pipe. Loaded weapon on him, take it to range, shoot shoot shoot shoot, reholster, drive home.
I thought it would be obvious that yes it has been shot...

I keep one of my Glocks in the ready to fire condition 24/7. it has never been a problem for me, gun runs fine.
