I've been looking at getting a gun for muzzle loader season here in Indiana. I've been eyeing a reproduction 1863 54 caliber Sharps or reproduction Missouri River 50 caliber Hawken:

But Indiana DNR states that the gun has to be loaded through the muzzle. I'm kinda of confused as I didn't think that the 63 Sharps used self contained cartridges & a percussion cap. The Hawken is a true muzzle loader, but I like the Sharps because you can open it at the breech and make life so much easier for cleaning.
Even if the Sharps was a breech loader, could it be loaded through the muzzle to meet the muzzle loading requirement?
