I purchased one of the Star model B pistols from Aim and it arrived today. I broke it down and cleaned it and have to say that it a nice pistol. I'm questioning the operation of the safety though. The thumb safety engages with the hammer cocked as well as with the hammer down. It seems much smoother with the hammer down and is a bit gritty with the hammer cocked. You can also drop the hammer to a half-cocked position. The thumb safety engages in that position too. Does this seem to be functioning normally? I'm also looking for a source of magazines. Any help or info is much appreciated!

Don't waste your time and/or money on the mag in the e-gunparts link. Its "replacement" not Star OEM. You can usually find the Star B series mags at large gun shows new or nearly so for ~$30, but bring the gun or at least the original magazine with you as there are several variations in the Star B series some of which are quite hard to find mags for.

Don't have the hammer down on a loaded round. Check, and I think you will find the firing pin protrudes when the hammer is down so a blow to the down hammer (like if dropped) with a round in the chamber can fire it.

Safety checks?

MM... I'm not sure what you mean by that... with the hammer cocked and the safety engaged, the trigger is free but the safety doesn't allow the hammer to drop. When the hammer is at the half-cocked position the trigger is immobile.

Thanks for the tips on magazines too. I've learned to stay away from some of the aftermarket magazines like Triple-K... Numrich does have a few parts though.

I'll check the gunshows too but they tend to suck around here (Anchorage).

Contact "Star" on the Spanish pistol forum on Gunboards.com. He is located in Spain and he has access to brand new parts to all models of Star pistols.
I've bought a few parts from him when I had a couple of BM models.
He's honest and a great guy with good advice and don't be afraid to send your $$$ across the Atlantic.
