I'm going to get a Glock for the wife to CCW and am thinking of either 9mm or .357SIG. If there are any shooters who have the .357SIG Glock, can you tell me a little about it?

My concerns are as follows:

Feeding reliability - I have to wonder about that shouldered case. Does it feed & eject reliably? I have heard of no problems so far, but I still wonder.

Recoil - How managable is the recoil of the .357SIG in the compact Glock package? How does it compare to the Glock 19 in 9mm?

Thanks for your input!:D

You're going to get a lot more muzzle blast and a much sharper recoil with the .357Sig. Nothing wrong with the 9mm for your wife's purposes.

The .357 Glocks feed fine.

My wife has shot thousands of rounds through my G19 and loves it. She popped off a couple in my G32 and handed it back to me.

Bottleneck cartridges actually aid feeding. However, like others have said the 9MM may be a better choice. FWIW, my wife was going to buy a Glock or XD, but she limp wrists them and they won't feed reliably. She ended up buying a S&W revolver in .38 Spl. Let her shoot a few and see what she likes.

I carry a Steyr M357 in this caliber , its has a sharper recoild pulse than 9MM or 40 S&W but it is an extremely flat shooting and hard caliber . Standard loadings will put 9MM +P loadings to shame . I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who is recoil or muzzle blast shy .

As a matter of fact, handgun bottleneck cartridges are well-known for feeding difficulties from doublestack mags. The .357 Sig, however, doesn't seem to suffer from this malady.

Rockstar is right on the money, the 400 CorBon setup I had was a bitch for feeding problems.I have 2 pistols chambered in 357sig,and they're both flawless...

However,I wouldn't recommend anyone carrying one until they've put several hundred rounds downrange,it is kinda stout...

Kirkcdl: The "fix", if you're shooting Glocks, is the 10-rd. G21 mag. I haven't had any feeding problems shooting .400 Cor-Bon through my 1911.

I'd stick with the 9mm, especially if your wife is going to shoot on an indoor range. Recoil impulse isn't that much harder with the .357, but the blast is SIGNIFICANTLY louder; which can lead to a bad case of flinchitis if you're not careful.

Additionally, 9mm is MUCH cheaper to shoot, saving money for more practice ammo and quality training...

Kevin

I am extremly impressed with the 357 Sig and it is the cat's meow in my 229 and 226. However in my HK P 2000 is jumps a bit much and I traded it for a P2000 in 9mm.
So I'd say that you must balance the platform with hand strength and purpose. If you are going to carry the 357 Sig you must shoot it a bunch.

.357 SiG is a real handful for most shooters. It works extrememly well, just ask the Virginia PD who apparently have reported that the round has a "lightening bolt" effect on perps.

Stick with 9mm and a good 124 - 127gr +P or +P+ JHP and you won't go far wrong.

I's go with 9mm, b/c you can buy loads that are similar to the .357 SIG, or you can use the easier-recoiling 147gr sub-sonic loads, as well as about 100 or so other loadings. It's very versatile.

If you want 357, get the real 357 :)
I got the G32. The recoil is harsh, while the recoil from my 686 is more more pleasant and addictive.
