I have a few questions. My wallet was stolen and I lost everything including my MN CCW permit. I have moved so many times I've actually forgotten what county issued it.


1.) Can I go to any Sheriff's department in MN and get a replacement or does it have to be the one that issued it? (I'm looking to go whichever is closest to my house).



2.) I want to pick up my SW MP15X AR15 rifle when it comes in, I take it I'll need my permit to carry since I do not have a permit to purchase, correct?



3.) You need a permit to purchase or permit to carry to buy any AR style rifle or pistol correct? While you do not need anything for regular rifles or shotguns?

Your carry permit should match the address on your drivers license. It needs to be changed within 30 days of a move, or it's not valid. If your drivers license is missing too, you might be SOL for now because of the government shutdown.
You need either a purchase permit or carry permit to buy a handgun, or any rifle on the MN "SAW" list(pretty much any gun that was covered by the 94' AWB.) Any other long guns just a drivers license. It would probably be easiest to go to the sheriffs office and get a permit to purchase, since they are free, and must be approved or denied within 7 days.

I'm a MNCPPA instructor. If you've "moved so many times you've actually forgotten what county issued it" your permit was invalidated 30 days after your first move. As rule303 explained, you are not going to be able to pick up your rifle anytime soon. No drivers license, an invalidated carry permit, and a government shutdown doesn't bode well. While I'm trying hard not to preach here, please be aware that you have failed to comply with the very simple regulations concerning a MN carry permit and I find it very hard to empathize or sympathize with you. Even had you not lost your wallet, you were not legally entitled to using a permit to carry as a method of complying with the law. Good luck.

Well, I have not invalidated my permit. When I moved here 4 years ago I renewed my license. I just remember where I did it the last time. I have renewed my CCW and also gotten a new one when I moved to where I live now.



My wallet was stolen before the shutdown and I have gotten everything replaced including my drivers license, the only thing that I haven't got replaced was the permit to carry.

You will need a permit to carry or a permit to purchase to pick up your AR-15. As you do not seem to know in which county your latest permit was issued (despite having transfered the permit from a previous locality and having undergone a renewal course too) from which to get a replacement, your best bet would be to go to whomever provides primary police coverage to the address listed on your driver's license and apply for a permit to purchase from there. It should show up in a week and will allow you to pick up your firearm.
Sorry for the sarcasm but it seems hard to believe a person has no idea what county they currently reside in, especially after its been long enough they do not know the last county they lived in. Somthing seems odd with the post.
