Quick question about out of state purchase

I live in Alabama and I'm going to be on vacation up in Tenn. for the next few days. If I were to find a gun at a pawn shop, gun store, or gun show.. would I be able to buy it and bring it home to Alabama or would I have to have it transferred to my FFL here in AL?

You could if it is a rifle or shotgun and the purchase was legal under both AL and TN law. If the firearm is a handgun or if the sale could not be completed in TN, you could have the gun shipped to an AL FFL for transfer to you.

Since it is an interstate purchase, it needs to go through an FFL. A rifle or shotgun can go through an FFL in either state*, while a handgun has to go through an FFL in your home state.

* Assuming neither state has a problem with the transaction.
