I have a S&W Model 59, nickel plated with blued accompaniments.
The nickel and the anodized aluminum look fine, but the blued parts: Trigger, slide release, hammer, and safety, are all showing wear. I know that's the nature of blued steel, but I was wondering how I could restore them to their former glory. The finish, where it remains, is still very highly-polished and reflective.
1) Should I send it somewhere that will do small parts? I called S&W and they couldn't give me a quote. Also, they wanted me to send in the whole gun, because they were afraid they would lose the parts (!).
2) Should I just try cold-bluing? Is there a way I can polish cold blue?
I know these are merely cosmetic matters. But it hurts my feelings to see my old gun looking this way.
