I just got a Springfield XD45 (45acp) with 4" barrel; I was quite taken aback by the ergonomics, especially compared to Glock 21's I've tried to shoot before; this was the first range session for it; I shot a total of 200 rounds and had 2 FTF's; I caused these by trying to "lighten" my pressure on the trigger and I must have loosened my grip and caused a limp wristed feeding malfunction X 2; :eek:

a quick pull back on the slide cleared the jams and put the gun into battery; I fired 100 rounds of CCI Blazer Brass 230 gr FMJ, 50 rounds of Federal American Eagle 230 gr FMJ, and 50 rounds of Winchester WWB Personal Defense 230 gr JHP; I haven't fired a .45 acp semiauto in over 18 months and MY accuracy was OK at best (I like DA revolvers in .38 spl & .357 magnum and DA/SA semiautos in 9mm);

recoil was just a tad more than from a steel-framed government sized 1911 (the gentleman next to me had one and we traded guns for a magazine's worth of ammo); going between the XD45 and a 1911 and back again makes the ergonomics on both guns seem very good;

now my ???

Has anyone used or tested the .45 acp Winchester WWB Personal Defense 230 gr JHP and what are your impressions of it? I just want a good and inexpensive defensive load for home protection!

With 230 gr factory loads I have no problems. However, with any LSWC reloads I have problems. MIne is a dealer only pistol from Dec in '05.

I suspect the WWB 230gr JHP would be fine for home defense. It doesn't have the ballistics (i.e. expansion) of the premium PD ammo, but hey..... it's 230gr of expanding lead, which ain't all that bad by itself;)

Guns are like women each is different.
My XD45 won't swallow WWB 230 gr. JHPs without choking. I will consistently feed, fire and eject Remington 230 gr. JHPs. These are far from "premium" self-defense loads, but will put big holes into thos who need big holes put in them.
Ya gotta try a bunch of different ammo. Go ahead, its's fun.

AmmoLab tested it and found it to be exceptional for the price. Good performance, reasonable flash, etc.

Until AmmoLab started charging membership fees, I read his WWB Personal Protection ammo review several times. He stated that it was as good as some of the "premium" stuff he had tested, for a lot less cost.

When I'm out of 230-gr Speer Gold Dots ($16.95/20) WWN PP is what I carry.

I remember some test on the WWB defensive loads, and they did pretty decent. They didnt do as good as the Gold Dots or the Rangers, but they would get the job done.
