R P Brass

I hate loading Remington brass, and I've only been loading for a week now. It's a LOT softer than everyone else's, and God forbid you make the slightest mistake, cause you'll crush the case to nothing with next to no effort.

You want some good brass? Speer makes some amazing brass... Workable, exact, and extremely consistent. Next in line would be Federal.

As I stated earlier I have a lot of .40 brass that is RP and I use the Hornady die set and have yet to run into this problem. However I have not tried the XTP bullets either, but I can't see where the bullet would make a difference. Maybe it is just some bad brass,

bullets are Hornady XTP 155 Gr #40000 .400 dia
Hornady die set used
expander not used and loaded round at brass to bullet end .420 dia
bullet can be pushed into r-p case to well below min oal. I think bullet is
bottoming out on powder,
Did you measure or just read the box.

I buy 38 cal XTPs that say .357" on the box but they run from .3545" to .355" with a few at .354".

I never seen where you answered my question of how thick the case wall was.

If it is sizing down to .420" that should be far enough.

Really? Speer is the brass I have the most trouble with. It is the only 9mm brass I have ever gotten stuck in a die & it happened twice before I started lubing them. Even after swageing the crimp from the primer pockets the primers are hard to seat. I try not to get any in my progressive press unless it is the only brass that I'm running.

The case walls go from .009" in the thin spots to .012" in the thick spots.

One site I looked at that sold once fired brass guaranteed everything accept Speer. I have not had any problems with it, but haven't had any problems with RP either, as long as the sizer is sufficient.

kingmt, thanks for replys XTP is at .399, case is at .418 after resize die,
case walls on these R-P are at .006. I am going to toss this batch of brass just to
be safe its only 50rds. bought a box a year ago or so of rem green box on sell and
kept the brass.

Wow. That is thin. If they are .418-.399-.006*2=.007" I think you found the problem. Cases .012" should be what they measure but as long as they are .010" you should be good.

I haven't had much experience with Remington pistol brass, but I really like Remington .308 brass, its really served me well. When I buy factory ammo, I buy Remington so I can load the brass. Also, I look for R-P brass at gun show's.

I have used R-P in rifle and in other pistol calibers aswell never had an issue, this
might just be a freak batch I did a search on internet and some others had this same issue with the .40 brass ? I wonder if it was the same LOT # I will never know, Pulled
the bullets and tossed that brass, loaded up same bullets with different brass no
issues at all.

RP Brass

I don't understand i have used Remington brass for years & i haven't had not one problem with them either

Remigron brass is softer/thinner than W-W or Federal but I have not experienced any problems using it.

I sent one of my dies back to RCBS after fighting RP brass for a while. They sent me a new one that is used for RP only. I use a Hornady for everything else.

I have found R-P brass to be slightly thin on case wall thickness but it is very useable, wears pretty well and is quite plentiful. As the old song went " Baby, two out of three aint bad" .

regards,

:):):)

I find R-P noticeably thinner in 45ACP but fairly average in 9mm. I find Speer to be the thinnest 9mm cases I have. The only unusably thin cases I've come across were some 45 cases marked W-W and some R-P cases in .38. And in both cases, they were pickups that looked like they had been reloaded many, many times. It looked like a reloader had abandoned them after one final shot.
