Does anyone know of a product that is essentially a "Riser" for a Pictanny Rail that can be removed and reinstalled on the rail with a "Return-to-Zero" similar to ARMS optics mount rings?

To ellaborate on what I am thinking:

I have considered adding a Night Vision scope to one of my rifles. According to my reading and my purposes, an inexpensive Gen I with external IR illuminator would suit my purposes. Sure, its not the greatest and range is limited-- but it will do what I would like it to do (mainly take out packs of coyotes and feral dogs that have now started invading my lawn at night.)

At any rate....

I'd rather not have to leave the optic on the rifle ALL the time. Nor would I really like to constantly re-zero.

The mounts on those NV Gen I optics are basically rail attachment mounts and are built onto the optic. That means you are stuck with them.

But I was thinking that if you could mount the optic to a Return-to-Zero Rail, the Rail itself could be removed and re-installed. I don't see why this would be so difficult considering the ARMS-type mounts that we see.

Anyone know of anything or have any ideas?

(Other than getting $$$ optic that is WELL outside the budget I want to put into this project considering the actual use it will get.)

Thanks!

I have the red dot on a riser on my flat top M4 but haven't yet removed and replaced to see if POI changes. I think I may try it out just to find out.

If you do the AR thing, a dedicated night vision upper would be in order. Maybe if legal a can too.

Let us know how it works- My place is starting to feel like a coyote den!. Every night it is a howl fest.

I think you're thinking of something like this? less than $15

I preffer one like this YHM for $33 I'm about to purchase one of these as well for a standard scope.

I've delt with scope risers from cheap, to mid-range to super-dooper expensive. For the most part, there's no difference between the cheap and mid-range.

To return to zero with success you need to follow a few simple steps. Place the riser on, before tightening the riser, PULL BACK or PUSH Forward... pick one and always do it the same, then tighten, place optics on riser and repeat the pull or push, then tighten. We do this with RCO's and Aimpoints with success on M4's and A4's.
