Well, I thought I would share if anyone else thought this might be a fun idea.
The range I go to has alot of skeet and sporting clays ranges, and I can easily pick up 100 or so undamaged clays when the range is clear.

I have wanted to figure out a way to use them for 200 and 300 yard targets for my rifles, so since it was raining and I was bored and I looked at the 7 million or so dry cleaner hangers in the closet I had an idea.

Made to be stapled through the cardboard to a target holder backstop. I have the entire process of making one photographed, if people are interested in the particulars.

Uses rubber bands to tension the wire coat hangers and actually grips the rims of the clays. Hopefully will keep them from falling off when I shoot one of the 3. Can;t test it yet due to the weather. Will post an update when i can, but after placing the clays in the tensioned wires, they don't move or roll so hopefully I have a winner :)

Well, I got out to the range today and tested this contraption. Amazingly it works like a champ!

I put up 4 of them and loaded 12 clays into the holders at 300 yards. It was a blast (pun intended)

You can shoot any of the clays and the others don't move as long as you have the wires tensioned right with the rubber bands.

One interesting thing, the clays are made of black clay underneath the flourescent paint. At 300 yards, it looked like the clays were exploading and blowing holes in the target holder. I thought I had put a 5" hole in the target holder! After going to check it, I realized it was just the black clay leaving a large spot on the holder and one usual 30cal hole :)

Hope someone else gets some use out of this, it is definitely pretty fun.

At my range we use a 4x4 frame with heavy chicken wire streched over and clothes pins to hold the clays. We do this for a pistol shoot competion.
And all the busted clays. Onr of the wifes came up with the ideal of using to cover the range with to reduce mud and dust on the 3 dry days on the year in Western Washington.
Work very well

Now there is a neat idea. I like to use old political campagn signs for target backers. They are stiffer and hold up longer than cardboard plus rainproof.
I am going trapshooting this afternoon with the boys so maybe I will scrounge up a bunch of clays.
It's about time to start tuning up my Prairie Dog guns.

Heh,
Peetee I never even saw that post. This just came to me when I was looking at my extra coat hangers. I was initially gonna make one with a wire "shelf" on the bottom and a second strip of coathanger at the top to hold them upright. Well, when I made the "shelf", I found out that it almost exactly fit the rims of the clays. Added the rubber bands to tension the wires, and it gripped the rim well enough that i didnt have to have a top wire to hold them in.

Glad I could help solve your previously posted problem :)
