Had a thought:
Might it be a good idea to post signs downrange of your backstop/target notifying people that they are downrange of a firing range?

I was bicycling alongside of a pond when I came to someones backyard. As i turned around so as not to go through their yard I saw a piece of cardboard that was obviously being used as a target holder. Downrange was the direction i had come in, and there was no backstop. This was rather unsettling.

I notice that a lot of you have small firing ranges of your own, and so I decided this might be worth discussing.

that... is the best idea i have heard in a long time, not only might it help keep people safe put it would also help prevent lawsuits.

It is an important issue. I have have a large dirt pile with a hill behind it. It is a good range but you do have to shoot down hill some at around 80 yards. It isn't perfect but it is at home.
