I have a Ruger M77 mkII with the canoe paddle zytel stock

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to raise the comb so i can get a good cheek weld rather than a loose chin/jaw weld so i can line up to the scope better

Ive seen the slip over kits but
a) i dont like slip on things on my gun
b) i fear that it wont stay tight due to the thinness of the canoe paddle stock

i would really like to find a unit like the one that attaches to the top of the blackhawk! stocks or the knoxx specops stocks

any help would be appreciated

I've thought about this lately myself. I do have a tie on cheek pad on my Savage 10FP and haven't had any problems. But I've just started working with kydex and have realized I can do something like this myself when I feel the need to have a more permanent adjustable comb... Adjustable_Comb_PistolGrip2.gif

I used knifekits.com to get the kydex. You'd just have to head up the middle of your kydex and place it over your stock for a few minutes for it to cool then drill some holes in the kydex and your stock. (Perhaps others could correct me on the proper method to drilling holes in a stock, I haven't done it yet myself).

The number 1 solution is to mount the scope lower. You can achieve this by using lower mounts, a smaller objective-lens scope, or a combination of the two. Good luck!

that kydex idea looks rather intriguing...i just may have to do that...if not i thought about maybe modding a knoxx comb piece to fit

im thinking about going from my 3x9x40 which is already really close to the bbl to a 3x9x36 but will that be enough to get the next size rings down?

I made my own cheek rest out of an old athletic elbow pad, some soft leather, some brass grommets and a piece of paracord.

It's a lace-on, but I put double-sided carpet tape underneath it to keep it from slipping. It hasn't moved in 10 years.

You might want to go with some heavy duty nylon or canvas pack cloth if you're going to be using it in rainy weather.

how did you attach that piece of kydex to the shotgun stock

Sorry, I should've clarified better. The picture of the shotgun stock isn't mine, I just grabbed that off a website for an example. I currently don't have any need of raising any of my long arm combs, but if I did, that's what I'd do.

It looks like they used bolts (I'm assuming long enough to go through to the other side of the stock). I just found a picture of the other side of that stock by searching for "adjustable comb."

I just looked at the sight I got the picture from. They're charging $239.95 for that stock! Brownells has the stock and forearm (without adjustable comb) for $117. Sorry I'm done hijacking the thread.

A 36mm scope should allow you to go to low rings if you currently use medium. But I'd want to use a 32mm. A used Zeiss for a sweet deal is hard to pass up. The Conquest by Zeiss used to be made in 4x32mm.

im thinking im going to go with gunnuterys solution...does anyone know if there are any beams or metal pieces in the canoe paddle stock?

There are many options for you to do, if you don't like the lace on or spandex type try on a Karsten, the one like on the speedfeed shotgun stock in post #9 and #2.

Also these folks make a good comb riser, we use these a lot on our builds....www.blackpowderbags.com/cgi-bin/miva?Merchant2/merchant.mv+Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=TLM&Category_Code=ACP

The Karstens are the best, but you'll have to drill your stock......www.imageseek.com/karsten/gallery/forsale

I have a couple rifles with the Beartooth units like in post #11, they work well and offer a soft and somewhat warmer feeling comb when its cold out! You can use some 3M double sided tape to anchor the foam to the stock before you pull the spandex cover over it, that will keep all of the beartooth unit from shifting on you.
