First let me show you a CCI Blazer .45 FMJ case that did not have an extractor rim!

I couldn't figure out why the case wasn't ejecting even after I cycled the slide a few times, I finally got a pen out and poked it out. Then I realized that the case was off, and it wasn't my Taurus, whew!

Anyway, I had time to hit the range this morning with the Taurus and a M1 Garand I recently acquired.

I had a selection of ammo, factory ammo included Blazer 230gr FMJ, Wolf 230gr FMJ, Federal 230gr Hydrashock HPs, Corbon 185gr +p HP. Some handloads I had with me were 185gr MCSWC, 200gr LSWC, and 230gr LRN.

In total I fired 256 rounds. Aside from the case that lacked a extractor rim, there were no failure to eject. 3 Wolf cartridges were reluctant to chamber, they got hung up on the feed ramp.

Everything else cycled perfectly although I did have a handload primer failure.

As far as shooting the gun, it prints very low. I was shooting at about 15 yds, and with the POA being the center of the target, it was centering groups 6" low. The groups seemed to be centered left to right.

Most shots were taken 2 handed, when I fired it one-handed/off-hand (left) there was very noticable twist and flip. Two handed and one-hand/strong-side was quite controllable however.

About shooting the gun itself, I have to admit I don't like the end of the trigger pull, it seems to place the finger at an odd angle to the hand.

Also, the slide release is hard to operate without retracting the slide. At first, I thought it was not designed to have the the slide dropped with the release alone, but only after I got home and was cleaning the pistol did I find you can release the slide, but it takes quite a bit of effort. Perhaps it'll become easier over time.

Overall, I'm satisfied with the weapon for what I'll be using it for.

Are you sure the rounds that failed to chamber were hung up on the feed ramp? I ask because I've been following this thread:

http://www.tacapp.com/?p=53

I do not have a 24/7, I have a PT-145 MilPro which is very similar.. but I've had the same difficulty with the slide release except when I have a loaded mag in it. With the loaded mag, the slide release drops easily.

YMMV. Glad you like the pistol

I first fired 50 rounds of the CCI Blazer. Then I started on the Wolf. I think I fired one full mag with no problems, then the 3rd and 4th rounds of the next one failed to feed, it did not look like the round went below the bottom of the feed ramp, I think that whatever the Wolf bullet was made from/coated with 'grabbed' the little bit of power residue on the ramp at that time. I dropped that mag and went to the other one, the 2nd round of that mag did the same, but it chambered on its own after I tapped the back of the slide. After that mag was empty, I went back to the first one, and all those rounds fired normally.

None of the other ammo I shot gave me a problem feeding.

MAJOR problem with new 24/7

I had some scary crap happen to me today. I took my 24/7 to the range and just to test the safety I put a full mag in it, chambered a round, and then put the safety on. I squeezed the trigger and............BLAMO the darn thing fired!!:cuss: :cuss: :cuss: I thought to myself, "that's not supposed to happen." The slide did not cycle and the empy cartridge was at the top of the ramp. The slide was a bitch to pull back. Scared the crap out of me. I promptly took it back to the gun shop where I got it and he is sending it back for a new one.
Andras, I have been to the range and not had a single jam (except for today's problem). I also noticed it shooting low, but I have figured out where to aim now. You will get used to it.

I own a 24/7 in .40 and have no problems with it firing while the safety is on. Also it doesn't shoot low.
Based on this I would say you need to have a chat with Taurus.

24/7 ftf

I had two 24/7's in 45. I had the regular 24/7 and the new pro. The older started having the failure to feed after about 500 rounds. The rounds nose dive into the feed ramp. I bought a new mag with the same results. I bought a 24/7 pro in 45 for the better trigger and hopinh that this issue was resolved. I had 2-3 ftf jams every mag. With hollow point it became a single shot. I traded both gun for an XD. It was a shame because the gun had the best feel of any hand gun I have held and the new trigger is excellent. This problem appears to be only in the 45. Maybe they tried to squeeze the round into too small of grip but the 45 have a real problem. I recomend not getting a 45 version but the 40 and 9 appear fine. Just shoot them alot before you trust them.

I wonder if this is a .45 specific issue?
My .40 has faultlessly fired well over 1000 rounds in 3 months, a combination of Remington UMC, White box, Blazer aluminum and FIL reloads (don't tell Taurus).
It's accurate beyond my own abilities and graduated this week into my carry gun.
Sorry to hear these problems with the .45. Maybe it's a design problem.

I also tried putting the safety on with no round in the chamber and it still fired. Not good. Hopefully my replacement won't do the same thing.

Im having a huge problem with the FTF problem with the taurus. Iv tried,
getting new Mags
polishing feed ramp
Really locking out my arms (i mean real stiff)
also a guy at the range today said to make sure im not keeping the trigger down to long i tried that and it helped some but not all the way.

The 9mm and .40 all seems to work great the problem seems just to be with the .45 and only after about 2 to 5 hundred rounds per magizine, others have had luck with trimming the top of the mag where the round goes into the feed ramp. the real question is for NRA handgun of the year should we really have to do this. first post here btw way so hi

Andras,

Try some brass cased ammo like Winchester USA "white box" or PMC. I shoot lots of Wolf, but some ammo just doesn't work with some guns as vice-versa. I doubt its a generic .45 25/7 Pro issue, but individual guns vary. One thing I have noticed with Wolf is the new polymer coating seems to have more friction comming up or out of the mag, and the profile of their FMJ (at least in some lots) is thicker further out toward the nose of the bullet than all others I've on hand to compare to.

If you are having feed problems with "normal" brass cased ammo, I'm afraid your gun may need a trip back to Taurus for warrenty work.

CCI Aluminum Blazer is another ammo brand that is common for some guns just not to like. I shoot lots of it in 9mm but get one or two extraction failures per 500 rounds, looks to me like the rims deform and the extractor slips off instead of pulling the round from the chamber.

--wally.

Out of the 256 rounds I fired, I shot 50 CCI aluminum, and 50 Wolf steel case. The rest were brass cased new-factory or handloads.

All the brass ammo cycled flawlessly (except the primer failure on one of my handloads).

I will definately get back out with more ammo soon, but I was limited on time and had to fire my M1 also.

To those of you who did not have any problems with the feed issues in the .45ACP version, have you continued to have good results? Or did it start happening to you too?

I checked the pictures of the stoppages from the link provided. The round is hung up on the front of the magazine and isn't even touching the feed ramp. That clearly makes that type of stoppage a magazine issue. Normally its too weak of a mag spring. I would suspect that using a short AOL round would probably elleviate some of the problem. It may be a case a weak spring that doesn't have enough strength to reliably push the round into position or a poor mag design that was made it too short. I would see if I could get some extra power mag springs and inspect the inside of the mag to ensure the surface of the nag is smooth and free of burrs.

I had similar failures with my Keltec until I swapped out some stonger mag springs. It took care of the "rattle" and the stoppages.
