Greeting's All-

The following is a brief range report on the first day firing on my NIB
Kimber Raptor II .45 ACP:

Ammo: 230 grain ball Rem-UMC

Distance: 25 yard line

Quanity: 66 rounds

Magazines: 1-Kimber, 2-Wislon 47's, 2-Wilson 47D's, 1- Chip
McCormick 8 rounder, and 1- Chip McCormick 10-rounder

First seven shots were fired using the Kimber magazine. One failure
to feed within the first seven rounds. I noticed that this batch of
Rem-UMC ammo seemed extremely HOT. With a 6 o'clock hold, all
shots landed within the X-ring of a standard B-27 NRA target. Next
up was a seven round Wilson #47 magazine. Function was flawless,
with all seven shots landing on the X-ring. With the X-ring quickly
disappearing, I focused my attention to making head shots using
the same target. 3rd in line was another Wilson #47, and function
was again flawless. All shots landed right on the head area of the
B-27. Next, was the two Chip McCormick magazines, first the ten
rounder, then the eight rounder. Again function was flawlwss with
both magaiznes, and all 18 shots were delivered to the head area
without problems. Then, I tried the Wilson 47D's. I experienced 2X
failures to feed with the first Wilson 47D. After clearing the problem
I continued on without further complications. All in all, this new
Raptor II from Kimber functioned satisfactorily; considering this gun
has a match barrel that needs further breaking in.

Special notation: The barrel of the Raptor II was cleaned with a
bore snake after firing each magazine, and properly lubricated with
Break Free CLP. After arriving home, the new Kimber was completely
field stripped, cleaned, and relubed with Break Free before storing
away till the next range session.

Of further note, NO handloads were tested this session due to the
fact that the new Kimber needed breaking in with ball ammo.

Say there Dan,

Sounds as though you have a winner there. The Kimbers' take a lickin, and keep on tickin. I have never had a problem with any of my Kimbers. They are a fine weapon IMHO. Good luck with it. :)

SILENT ONE

Attaguy; I think the Kimbers get an undeserved bad rap over the "MIM" business; I think its totally overblown myself.

Thus proving what I've been saying for a while: first thing to do is toss the POS factory mag.
The pistol exhibited twice the rate of failure, when using the Wilson 47D, as it did with the OEM mag. Should Dan toss out the Wilson 47D before, or after he tosses out the OEM POS? Kimbers are built tight. This one's probably just tight enough to require some break-in, as some 1911's are.

Yeah, I caught that. You may be right on the break-in. However, IME, 99% of the so-called "Kimber problem" has been solved by replacing the factory mag.

(n.b., I use only 47Ds in mine. Never had a hiccup in 10k or so rounds since I stopped using the original mag.)

p.s. I'd be curious what happens if you use a Kimber mag in a Wilson?
