Range Report on New toy

This is my newest toy a 586- nothing. Factory Nickle 4 inch barrel red ramp front site, target grips? When I picked it up the person who does my transfers said I should think about selling before shooting as I could advertise "appears unfired" but I bought it to shoot.

The finnish on this revolver is nothing less than stunning and I am not a big pimp gun fan.

At thirty feet it shot about 5 inches low with S&B soft point. With a little adjustment it grouped great. I was shooting 3 inch groups double action unsupported with cheap ammo this is good for me. I also ran some SOG surplus 38sp thru it with the same results. Both shot to the same point of aim, now aint that handy.

The trigger is not as good as my 6in -6 there seems to be some mush right before it breaks. Possibly this will clean up with use and dry fire.

Could anyone tell me when this serial # was manufactured? AEM70xx

I realy love these 586's. I wonder what took me soo long to get a couple.

That is a fine looking revolver. I'm not a fan of nickled weapons either, but yours id very nice. Great pair of stocks too!

model 586 was manufactured between Jan and Nov
of 1984; most likely September, in my way of thinking.

The 586 is a great firearm, and with reasonable care
should serve you for many moon's to come! Enjoy-

Thanks guys, and Thank You Ala Dan! It shoots great but it took me a good hour to get it nice and shiny again. For a shooter I prefer blue, lazy I guess....

Great gun. I've got one just like it that I purchased new around 1986 and it still looks as good as the day I bought it. In fact it was my first revolver and third gun that I had ever bought. You're gonna love it. I put a set a Pachmayr gripper professionals on it (without the backstrap) and they fit my hand perfectly. Best, Mike

MikeJ what kind of ammo does yours like? Have you found any cleaning tricks with this nickle it is realy a pain to clean up.

I can't say that I use any particular ammo over another. Last time I was out with it I shot 158 grain 357, 130 grain .38 fmj and some 125 grain .38+P. As long as it is from a top quality manufacturer I pretty much buy whatever is on sale. As far as cleaning is concerned, I'm very careful, as I am with all my guns. As to the nickel finish though, every once in a while I will take a soft cloth and lightly polish it with Wenol or Flitz metal polish, they are virtually the same as far as I can tell. My gun is about 16 or 17 years old and it looks like new so I must be doing something right. By the way, my 586 is strictly a range gun for recreational shooting so it stays wrapped up in a silicone cloth and stored in a foam rubber case, I believe they are called Dosikol or something like that. I can't remember ever seeing a nickel 586 before - they aren't very common.

Actually, a very good looking weapon. I am not a fan of shiny nickel finish either, but on that S&W, OK!
