OK I promised a range report so here goes.
Went to Iron sights in Oceanside (not very long range, but I couldn't wait to shoot them)
Had one box of 180gr. Olympic stuff and one box of 180gr. Winchester soft point.
I started with the 91/30. Loaded it up with some of the olympic, just to get used to it. Kick wasn't too bad, seemed reasonably accurate, didn't need any sight adjustment at all. I loaded the good winchester stuff and shot the group below with it.
Grabbed the M44, thinking "Eh, it's not gonna kick too much harder than the 91/30." I'm not QUITE sure what made me jump back more, the kick of the rifle, the HUUUGE boom, or the massive fireball that jumped out of the barrel. Sights were set so that the impact was WAY high, and the round struck the hanger, leaving a nice 7.62 sized hole in the hangar. Holy crap. Cool rifle
Shot that some more, this time PREPARING myself for the recoil, and had a helluva time. Not bad for 2 rifles that cost about 100 bucks for both. (plus transfer fees.)
The smell of the hoppes beckons, time to clean
