Range Report - New M&P Shield

OK, was able to get to the range this evening with the new shield. Had 150 rounds on hand, 100 target, 50 JHP. It ate them all without a hitch. The first couple times, getting the 7th round into the short mag was an adventure - took a good amount of effort. By the end of the session, it was easier, but still took some effort. Also, when fully loaded the short mag takes a fairly hefty smack to get it fully seated. The extended mag was both easier to load and easier to seat.

I fired it at 5 yards, 7 yards, and for the hell of it, 25 yards. Accuracy was impressive. It shot to point of aim and stayed in the center of the target nicely. At 25 yards, I was at least able to keep all of the rounds in the circle of the target, and I wasn't taking particular care. At 5 yards, I put 9 rounds into a big hole:

Felt recoil was surprisingly light, and fast follow-up shots were easily managed.

After the range, it disappears under a t-shirt in a cheap nylon holster - there will be a quality holster for it coming soon, though. It also fits really nicely in the back pocket of my jeans in a pocket holster.

I do believe that I am in love with this one.

Awesome, I just ordered one last night, should be here sometime next week. Everything I've read about them from people who've fired them has been extremely positive.

How's the grip was you able to get a full grip on it?

Also what is the real world prices looking like on these so far and will the price drop much when the new wears off? I saw MSRP price of $449 so I was assuming that real world be a tad under or right at $400?

I can get about half of my pinky on there with the short mag, and a solid full grip with the extended mag.

Great review. Thanks.
What is the big difference between these and Glocks/XD's. Is it the (almost) single stack? Is it thus lot easier to hold and conceal? And in your opinion, is that worth giving up a few extra rounds versus the double stack designs?

Edit:
Btw, where are these things built? :
Glock - Austria
MP - ?
XD - ?

The big difference to me is the slimness. It's definitely worth giving up the extra rounds for me. I'm an armed citizen, not a cop - I'm looking to escape danger, not confront it. The likelihood of me needing more than 8 rounds is pretty low. The M&P is made in the US. The XD was originally manufactued in Croatia, not sure if it still is or not.

Looks like a real winner there in terms of size and effectiveness. Great report too! Can you give us some measurements in regard to overall length, width, height, etc.?

Measurements are 6.1" overall length, .95" width, and 4.6" height

Thanks for the measurements. Definitely something I want to look into for CCW.
